Scott Township commissioners, looking into traffic calming measures on Raven Drive, have approved the placement of a temporary speed hump on the road.

Commissioner Angela Wateska had requested the temporary speed hump as she said residents reached out to her saying they were “very concerned” about speeding cars on the road.

The April 27 vote makes way for traffic studies to be done in that area. Ms. Wateska said about 70% of residents in that neighborhood would have to sign off on the traffic calming measures before a permanent solution, such as a permanent speed hump, would be installed.

In other road matters, commissioners approved Scott’s 2021 road program and awarded the contract to A. Liberoni Inc. of Plum for $734,824.

The amount is under the $800,000 the township budgeted for the 2021 road program. The total price includes a base bid of $163,626 for Scott Park and a base bid of $454,481 for the township’s roads. The price also includes three add-alternates: Oriole Drive from Raven Drive to Cardinal Drive for $23,258; Torrence Avenue from Hiland Street to Summit Street for $27,336; and Lindsay Road from Greentree Road to Park Drive for $66,121.

In other business, commissioners granted conditional use approval from St. Michael the Archangel Parish on Kane Boulevard to replace its existing sign along Bower Hill Road with an electronic message sign. The sign’s content will be limited to parish-related school and community activities and the lighting on the upper portion of the sign will be dimmed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

A final subdivision of a minor land development for a Chase Bank ATM was approved. The ATM will be located at 1160 Washington Ave.

Commissioners also approved the promotion of Scott Township Police Patrolman Steven Mitrisin to sergeant, effective May 2. The board also approved the hiring of one new police officer.

A lease agreement from First National Bank Commercial Leasing was approved for the lease of two new 2021 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles for three annual payments of $69,520 with a $1 buyout at the end of the lease.
