Freedom Days

Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, The Ohio Players and the Shining Star Band are the stars of Freedom Days, a free festival at Downtown’s Point State Park celebratin­g Juneteenth.

It begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the Juneteenth Consecrati­on Service and Sankofa Dance & Drum Team and runs through Sunday with a lineup spanning jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul.

The Ohio Players headline the Friday slate at 7:30 p.m., Big Daddy Kane and Rakim take the stage at 6 p.m. Saturday, and The Shining Star Band, a tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire, play at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Kennywood Bites Bites and Pints Food & Drink Festival

continues at Kennywood with seven internatio­nal cuisine stations around the Lagoon area serving chef-created tastings, specialty cocktails, craft beer and wine.

Chef Brian Pekarcik, the creative mind behind local Pittsburgh restaurant­s BRGR and Spoon, has created a menu inspired by Caribbean, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Mexican cuisine.

It runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in June. Tasting hours are 4-9 p.m. Fridays; 1-9 p.m. Saturdays; and 1-7 p.m. Sundays. Details at www.kennywood.com/bites-and-pints. Here is the weekend music lineup:

Saturday: Tess Ann (2-3 p.m.); Dallas Marks Band (7-8 p.m.).

Pittsburgh Public Theater brings the online Classics N’at series to a close this weekend with Emma Gibson’s “When We Fall,” winner of PPT’s 2021 New Play Contest.

Marya Sea Kaminski directs, and Deena Aziz, Ben Cherry, Parag S. Gohel, Lenne Klingaman and Robyne Parrish star in the play “about learning to fly, telling stories and finding friendship in unexpected places.”

The stream begins at 7 p.m. Thursday and runs through Sunday. Donations start at just $10; ppt.org.
