A former West Penn Hospital employee will serve up to 22 months in jail and 10 years probation after pleading guilty to charges connected to secretly recording co-workers and patients undressing at the medical center.

Guy Caley, 53, of Canonsburg, was sentenced Monday by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Bruce Beemer to 11-22 months in the Allegheny County Jail. Once his jail time is served, he must also register as a sex offender for 15 years, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office said.

In May, Caley pleaded guilty to 44 felony counts of intercepting communications and 45 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. He admitted to police that he used cameras placed in a hospital bathroom and the radiation department to capture video of employees and patients. Many of the latter were being treated for cancer, police wrote in the charging documents.

Authorities said there were 58 people victimized by Caley, who took his camera home and put the video and audio files on his personal laptop. Investigators found dozens of files on his hard drives containing recordings of the victims, a criminal complaint says.

He was charged in July 2020 after a hospital employee discovered a small video camera set up in a third-floor bathroom, where several employees were filmed by Caley. Police said the bulk of the patient victims were recorded in the radiology department where Caley worked and recorded them after telling them to put on a hospital gown.

The man is also being sued in civil court by several of his alleged victims, some of whom say they have suffered emotional distress, and that the hospital was negligent in its management of employees. Some of the victims were captured across multiple different recordings.
