Former WVU star White gets new team

Saints grab WR cut by the 49ers

Kevin White, the former West Virginia star receiver and seventh overall NFL draft choice in 2015, says he has been lucky in life, but decidedly less fortunate in his pro football career.

“Unlucky with injuries,” White said after his first practice with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday. “But very lucky to still be in this league.”

White was among a handful of new Saints players at practice. White, who has played in just 17 games in his injury-riddled career and who hasn’t made a catch in an NFL game since 2018, was cut by San Francisco a week ago.

He said the opportunity to join New Orleans “means everything, going on year seven, not really getting the opportunity” to hold a regular role while healthy in the NFL.

“I’m healthy. I know a lot about the game. I know how the business works,” White said. “It means a lot, man, that someone else gave me a chance to live out my dream and kind of prove myself right and everyone else wrong.”

White had 1,447 yards and 10 TDs receiving in his final college season in 2014. He has just 25 catches for 285 yards with no touchdowns since the Chicago Bears made him a first-round pick.

Texans

An attorney for 22 women who have filed lawsuits accusing Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and harassment said Wednesday that he and some of his clients have spoken to the FBI about the case. Tony Buzbee said that the FBI “reached out to me, and I responded.” The FBI’s involvement was first reported Tuesday by League of Justice, a website that reports on sports and the law. The revelation by Buzbee of the FBI’s involvement prompted Watson’s lead attorney to hold a news conference on Wednesday to say that the FBI had spoken with the quarterback earlier this year about claims of extortion by one of his accusers.

Bears

Chicago is without its top two draft picks. Coach Matt Nagy on Wednesday said quarterback Justin Fields was out of practice due to a groin injury, while secondround pick, offensive lineman Teven Jenkins, was facing back surgery. The injury to Fields is considered minor but Jenkins has been out all of training camp.
