“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”: Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are back as bodyguard Michael Bryce and assassin Darius Kincaid, this time tasked with protecting Darius’ wife, played with great aplomb by Salma Hayek.

“The Water Man”: A boy sets out to save his ailing mother by searching for the Water Man, a mythical figure who possesses the secret to immortalit­y, said to reside in a remote forest.

“Rogue Hostage”: Tyrese Gibson plays a former Marine who becomes involved in a hostage situation while visiting his stepfather’s general store. Also starring John Malkovich.

“The Rebels of PT-218”: A torpedo boat battles German forces on the Atlantic in this World War II action film starring Eric Roberts, William Baldwin and Danny Trejo.

AT THE MOVIES

“The Protege”: Pittsburgh native Michael Keaton stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Maggie Q in director Martin Campbell’s action-thriller about the world’s most skilled contract killer out for revenge.

“PAW Patrol: The Movie”: The Nickelodeo­n children’s show makes a leap to the bigscreen as the pups try to stop Adventure City from devolving into chaos. The voice cast of this animated flick includes Dax Shepard, Randall Park, Iain Armitage and Tyler Perry.

“The Night House”: A woman living in the lakeside house her recently deceased husband built for her begins to uncover the disturbing secrets he left behind. Directed by David Bruckner and starring Rebecca Hall and Sarah Goldberg.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

Lorde, “Solar Power”: The Grammy-winning electropop artist from New Zealand says of her third album and first in four years, “The album is a celebratio­n of the natural world, an attempt at immortaliz­ing the deep, transcende­nt feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out and tune in. This is what came through.”

Sturgill Simpson, “The Ballad Of Dood And Juanita”: The seventh album from the outlaw country rocker from Kentucky tells the story of a Civil War-era couple torn apart by violence and reunited by love. Simpson calls it a “rollercoas­ter ride through all the styles of traditiona­l country and bluegrass and mountain music that I love, including gospel and a cappella.”

Deafheaven, “Infinite Granite”: The San Francisco post-metal band enlisted producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Wolf Alice, Paramore) for a fifth album that promises “a giant leap forward” sonically.

Kool & the Gang, “Perfect Union”: First album since 2001 from the funk legends who gave us “Jungle Boogie” and “Get Down On It.”

WHAT’S ON TV

“Coroner”: (8 p.m. Thursday, WUAB): Coroner Jenny Cooper (Serinda Swan) is tasked with investigat­ing the mysterious death of a caregiver as this medical drama returns for its third season.

“Sweet Girl” (Friday, Netflix): Jason Momoa plays a devoted family man vowing justice against the pharmaceut­ical company responsibl­e for pulling a potentiall­y life-saving drug from the market just before his wife (Adria Arjona) dies from cancer.

“The Greatest #AtHome Videos” (9 p.m. Friday, KDKA): Cedric the Entertaine­r returns to host the sophomore season of this one-hour feel-good reality series that spotlights the humor, humanity and striking creativity that have become hallmarks for this new generation of viral home videos.

“Stand Up to Cancer” (8 p.m. Saturday): Executive produced by Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoo­n and her husband, Jim Toth, this year’s hour-long fundraisin­g event originates live from Los Angeles and airs simultaneo­usly on more than 60 media platforms across the U.S. and Canada. All four major U.S. networks — ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC — are donating an hour of commercial­free airtime. Ken Jeong and his wife, physician Tran Ho, a cancer survivor herself, are cohosts, along with Anthony Anderson and Sofia Vergara, with Common and Brittany Howard among the performers.

“The Virgin Sinners” (8 p.m. Saturday, LIFE): A clique of seven school girls decides to form an elite group called The Sins, with each of them embodying one of the Seven Deadly Sins in this 2021 horror-thriller.

“Godzilla vs. Kong” (9 p.m. Saturday, HBO):

Director Adam Wingard’s 2021 monster film finds humans enlisting Kong to retrieve a power source to use against Godzilla.

“The Walking Dead” (9 p.m. Sunday, AMC):

As one of cable’s most successful series returns for Season 11, the community of Alexandria lies a battered shell of its former self, its security devastated by the destructio­n left in the wake of the Whisperers. Now, the Alexandria­ns must re-fortify the place and find a way to feed the swelling population.

“Work in Progress” (11 p.m. Sunday, SHO):

Series co-creator and star Abby McEnany returns for Season 2 of this sitcom heavily based on her own life, which picks up the action as her character, Abby, is trying to recover from a recent breakup.
