McIntyre surpasses 100 goals

Eben McIntyre joined the WPIAL’s 100-goal club in Charleroi’s 7-0 win over Mount Pleasant in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 3 opener played Tuesday at Mount Pleasant. It was also the first game of the season for both teams.

McIntyre scored five goals for the Cougars to increase his career total to 102. His 100th goal came in the 30th minute of the first half. McIntyre put a header on goal which was stopped by the Vikings goaltender, but scored on the rebound.

Jake Caruso and Landon Barcus also scored for Charleroi.

Other boys soccer

• Landon Mohney scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Butler, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, to a 5-0 win over host North Hills in a Section 1 opener. Noah Wolford and Drew Knight split the goalkeeper duties in the shutout.

• Reilly Nickles scored three goals, while Ryan Kopay and Jacob Puhalla scored two each, to lead Moon (2-0, 1-0), No. 3 in Class 3A, to a 10-0 win over host Central Valley (0-1, 0-1) in Section 2.

• Bentworth (2-1, 1-0) rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit with goals by Julian Hays and Ryan Colbert in the second half to defeat host Brentwood (0-1, 0-1), 2-1, in Class 1A Section 4. Goalkeeper Landon Urcho made seven saves for the Bearcats.

• Adin Zorn scored twice as Sewickley Academy (1-0, 1-0) posted a 3-1 road victory over Beaver County Christian in a Class 1A Section 1 opener. Will Vanella added a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who are ranked No. 5.

• Deaubre Lightfoot, Anthony Sawa and Landon Bell each scored two goals as Belle Vernon (3-0) dominated East Allegheny (0-1), 10-0, in a non-conference game. Four others scored one goal for the Leopards.

• Owen Zimmerman scored two goals and five teammates added a single goal as Kiski Area (2-1, 1-0) posted a 7-1 road win at Freeport (0-1, 0-1) in Class 3A Section 1. Isaac Wetzel scored Freeport’s only goal.

• Conner Williams and J.J. Porter each scored two goals as Penn-Trafford (2-0, 1-0) blanked host Hempfield (0-1, 0-1), 5-0, in Class 4A Section 3. The Warriors broke open a close game with five goals in the second half.

• Luke Vinoski and Cody Metz scored second half goals to break a scoreless tie and lead Yough (1-0, 1-0) to a 2-0 win over visiting Waynesburg ( 0- 3, 0- 1) in Class 2A Section 3.

• Deer Lakes (1-1, 1-0), ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, needed only one goal to defeat Burrell (0-1, 0-1), 1-0, in a Class 2A Section 2 opener. Mason Metzler scored the only goal of the game for the Lancers.

• Jack Billick scored three goals, including one on an impressive free kick from at least 30 yards, to lead Class 1A No. 3 Seton LaSalle (1-1, 1-0) to a 6-0 win over California (0-1, 0-1) in Section 4.

Girls soccer

• Maura Heberle and Kayla Statler each scored twice to lead South Side Beaver (2-0) to a 6-1 win over visiting Waynesburg in a non-conference game. South Side Beaver is ranked No. 4 in Class 1A.

• Caroline Samchuck scored three goals to lead Beaver (1-0) to a 9-0 nonconfere­nce road victory over Sewickley Academy (0-1). Six other Bobcats scored one goal including Emerson Connelly, who also recorded three assists.

Girls volleyball

• In a showdown of Class 3A ranked teams, No. 2 Freeport (1-0, 1-0) swept No. 5 Mars (0-1, 0-1), 25-12, 2515, 25-14, in a Section 5 game played at Freeport. Cassidy Dell led the Yellow Jackets with 8 kills and 25 assists. Lauren Atwell had seven kills for the Planets.

• Molly Simmons recorded 13 kills and Abby Santacroce had 12 digs as Moon (1-0, 1-0), ranked No. 3 in Class 4A swept host Baldwin (0-1, 0-1), 25-8, 2520, 25-22, in Section 2.

• Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (1-0, 1-0), ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, upset No. 3 Eden Christian (0-1, 0-1) in a Section 3 opener, 25-15, 2520, 15-25, 25-13.
