Girls athlete of the week

// The Post-Gazette’s top female performer from the past seven days

- — By Steve Rotstein

The past week: Lape scored two goals and tallied one assist in a 4-3 win at Mount Pleasant on Sept. 27, then added four goals in a 5-0 win at Ringgold the following day before notching a pair of goals in a 4-3 win vs. Trinity on Sept. 30.

Check this out: Lape ranks No. 1 in the WPIAL with 27 goals going into the week for the Falcons, who entered the week 9-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play. The senior forward, who also led the WPIAL with 38 goals last season, announced her verbal commitment to play for Kent State in June.

Last year your team went 110 in the regular season without allowing a single goal. How is that even possible? Our goalie [Maddy Kinneer] is insane. She works so hard. Our back line was really strong last year, so it was very upsetting losing when we had very high hopes going into it.

After losing in the first round of the playoffs three years in a row, what is more important for you — winning another scoring title or winning your first playoff game? It’s always been my goal to win a playoff game at Connellsville, because we’ve never done it in [school] history.

Do you have a favorite soccer player who you look up to the most? I’ve always liked Lionel Messi since I was little, just the way he moves off and on the ball.

Do you have a favorite player on the U.S. women’s national team? Yeah, I do. Carli Lloyd.

What’s the last show you binge watched on Netflix? I watched “Clickbait.”

Have you watched that new “Squid Games” show everybody is talking about? No, I haven’t. My sister is watching it right now.

What are two songs you have to listen to on your pregame playlist? “Baby” by Justin Bieber, and probably “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus.

Do you have pets? Yes, I have a dog. Her name is Miley. She’s a Maltese and a Yorkie mix.

Did you name her after Miley Cyrus? [Laughs] No.

Who came up with her name? I think I was like 8, and I picked that name. Me and my sisters [Ella and Avery].

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I like to eat waffles with Nutella and syrup for breakfast all the time.

What is one prized possession you can’t live without? Probably my sisters.
