Alex’s Pit Stop II hit with consumer alert

The Allegheny County Health Department posted a consumer alert at Alex’s Pit Stop II in Homewood after finding more than a dozen food safety violations. Some of the problems included food in unsound condition, lack of a system for date-marking foods, inadequate cleaning and sanitizati­on of food and non-food contact surfaces, inadequate hand-washing facilities and inadequate pest management.

The inspection report also noted the presence of rodent droppings at the bar, small flies in the kitchen and “black, mold-like substance” covering a refrigerat­or in the basement. The operator of the business could not immediatel­y be reached for comment.

Cigna to sell businesses in $5.75B deal

Cigna Corp. has struck a $5.75 billion deal to sell its life, accident and supplement­al businesses to Swiss insurer Chubb Ltd. The agreement is “another step forward” in advancing Cigna’s strategic focus on its global health businesses. It’s expected to be completed next year. Chubb was rebuffed earlier this year when it made an unsolicite­d $23 billion offer for The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.

Google cracks down on climate change denial ads

Google is cracking down on digital ads promoting false climate change claims or being used to make money from such content, hoping to limit revenue for climate change deniers and stop the spread of misinforma­tion on its platforms. The policy will also apply to YouTube, which last week announced a sweeping crackdown of vaccine misinforma­tion.

Target joins other retailers offering ‘buy now, pay later’

Target has become the most recent retailer to offer shoppers a “buy-now-pay-later” option ahead of the holiday shopping season. More retailers are moving away from layaway and instead using services that allow customers to buy now and pay later in installmen­ts. Target said it has partnered with Sezzle and Affirm to offer the program.
