Lacks does it all for Crusaders

No. 4 in Class 1A Bishop Canevin (6-1, 3-1) bounced back from their first loss of the year last week to Clairton and routed No. 5 Leechburg (5-2, 2-2), 33-3, on the road. In the three previous games, Leechburg quarterbac­k Tommy Burke threw for 880 yards, but the Crusaders limited Burke, as the only points Leechburg put up in the game came on a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Jason Cross got things started for Bishop Canevin, as he rushed for a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Crusaders a 7-3 lead. Lasae Lacks of Bishop Canevin followed with a 35-yard punt return for a touchdown to put the Crusaders up, 13-3, at the end of the first quarter.

Crusaders running back Marquis Carter rushed for a 17-yard touchdown in the second quarter and then Lacks caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Jason Cross to give Bishop Canevin a 25-3 lead at halftime.

Lacks had a 63-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter to improve the Crusaders lead to 33-3. It was Lacks’ third touchdown of the game and third way of scoring.

More Class 1A Carmichael­s 40, Monessen 6: :

Carmichael­s (5-2, 3-1) went on the road and beat Monessen (3-4, 2--2) in a convincing manner. It was a big win for Carmichael­s as they were tied with Monessen and California for second in the Tri-County South prior to tonight’s game. Carmichael­s’ key performers were quarterbac­k Trenton Carter and running back Michael Stewart. Carter completed 7 of 13 passes for 143 yard and three touchdowns, while Stewart rushed for 67 yards on seven carries and had two touchdowns. Stewart also had a 61-yard touchdown reception.

Shenango 48, Northgate 6:

Shenango (2-4, 2-2) routed Northgate (2-5, 1-3) at home and they did it with a lethal rushing attack that was led by Hunter Lively, who rushed for 173 yards on 15 carries and had three touchdowns. CJ Miller also rushed over 100 yards, racking up 151 yards rushing on 18 carries and a touchdown. Shenango led 26-0 at halftime.

Mapletown 45, Avella 16:

Mapletown (4-3, 2-2) had a convincing win over Avella (0-7, 04) at home. Mapletown got out to a 23-0 lead in the first quarter and the game was pretty much all but over by halftime, as Mapletown led 460. Mapletown’s Landan Stevenson had touchdown runs from 42 and 29 yards out in the second half. Stevenson is the fourth-leading rusher in the WPIAL.

Rochester 35, Fort Cherry 0:

Rochester (5-1, 3-1) shut out Fort Cherry (4-3, 2-2) at home. Running back Sal Laurie was the standout performer for Rochester, as he recorded three rushing touchdowns. Rochester outgained

West Greene 56, Bentworth 0:

West Greene (5-2, 4-0) had a commanding win over Bentworth (2-4, 1-3) at home. West Greene led 350 at halftime and running back Colin Brady had the first four touchdowns of the game, all coming on the ground. Brady also had a 85yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half.

Springdale 20, Jeannette 9:

Springdale (4-3, 1-3) got its first conference win of the year by beating Jeannette (1-6, 1-3) on the road. Springdale let 7-6 at halftime but pulled away in the second half with 13 points scored in the fourth quarter. Springdale running back Chris Savko rushed for 158 yards on 22 carries and had two touchdowns.

Class 2A McGuffey 55, Waynesburg 22:

McGuffey (5-3, 4-0) remains unbeaten in conference play as they rolled over Waynesburg (2-6, 1-4) at home. McGuffey got out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and they never looked back after that, as they led 35-0 at halftime. Waynesburg’s Braydon Woods, who is the fifth-leading rusher in the WPIAL with 867 yards, had a 78-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Freedom 35, Ellwood City 0:

Freedom (3-4, 2-2) shut out Ellwood City on the road (0-5, 0-4). Freedom led 14-0 at halftime and then poured it on in the second half with 21 points scored. Freedom outgained Ellwood City 283-34 in total offense. Freedom’s defense was really stout, as Ellwood City rushed for just 2 yards on 27 carries.

South Side Beaver 49, Carlynton: 14:

South Side Beaver (4-3, 11) got its first conference win of the season, as they routed Carlynton (2-5, 1-1) on the road. South Side Beaver led 26-6 at the end of the first quarter and continued to pour it on in the second quarter with 23 points scored.

Laurel 35, New Brighton 7:

No. 2 in Class 2A Laurel (7-0, 4-0) rolled over New Brighton (2-5, 1-3) at home with a convincing win. Laurel remains unbeaten on the season. Laurel led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back after that. Laurel running back Luke McCoy rushed for 101 yards on 15 carries and had two touchdowns. McCoy is the second-leading rusher in the WPIAL and the second-leading scorer.

Beaver Falls 41, Mohawk 7:

Beaver Falls (3-3, 2-2) rolled over Mohawk (5-2, 3-1) at home. Beaver Falls led 21-0 at halftime and continued to have its way in the second half with 14 points scored in the third quarter.

Chartiers-Houston 34, Frazier 7:

Chartiers-Houston (5-1, 3-1) went on the road and routed Frazier (-0-7, 0-3). Frazier remains winless on the season. Chartiers-Houston outgained Frazier 206-92 in total of
