Rangers’ Fox out at least three games

Adam Fox will not play for the New York Rangers until after the All-Star break because of an upper-body injury.

The defenseman was placed on injured reserve Friday prior to a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild and will miss at least three regular-season games — Sunday against the Seattle Kraken and Tuesday againstthe Florida Panthers.

Fox was selected to the Metropolit­an Division for the All-Star Game, to be played Feb. 5, but it is unknown if he willbe able to participat­e.

New York’s first game afterthe break is Feb. 15 against the Boston Bruins.

“If [an injury] was going to happen, it’s perfect timing,” Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said. “We fully expect him to be back after the break.”

Fox left a 5-3 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday in the third period after he was pinned to the boards by Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. He had an assist to extend his point streak to seven games (11 points; two goals, nine assists).

Avalanche

Nathan MacKinnon will not play for the Colorado Avalanche until after the All-Star break because of a concussion and facial fracture.

The center will miss at least three regular-season games — a 6-4 win Friday at the Chicago Blackhawks , and home games Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres and Tuesday against the ArizonaCoy­otes.

MacKinnonw­as voted captain of the Central Division for the All-Star Game, and it is unknown if he will be able toparticip­ate.

MacKinnon was injured Wednesday when he was hit by Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall early in the first period of a 4-3 overtime win. He was down on the ice for about a minute and was bleeding from his face before being helped to the locker room at 2:22. Hall hit MacKinnon while he was carrying the puck near the Colorado blueline.
