Freshman leads UConn win

Fudd pours in 25 as Huskies upend No. 7 Tennessee

Freshman Azzi Fudd made the most of her first start with a stellar effort against Tennessee.

She scored a career-high 25 points to help No. 10 Connecticu­t (15-4) beat the seventh- ranked Lady Vols (19-4), 75-56, Sunday in Harford, Conn.

“Azzi looked happy playing basketball today,” coach Geno Auriemma said. “Sometimes kids that come in with that kind of hype, it’s like an obligation. Today she looked like a happy kid playing a game she loves.”

Fudd was playing in only her eighth game this season after injuring her foot in late November.

“This is not how I expected my freshmen year to go, sitting out so many games and getting hurt,” said Fudd, who hit seven of her nine 3-point attempts.

Tennessee, which has lost three of its past four games, got 26 points Jordan Horston.

Other Top 25 games Stanford 83, Southern California 57:

Cameron Brink scored a career- high 26 points and had 14 rebounds as No. 2 Stanford (18-3, 9-0 Pac-12) routed host Southern California (9-11, 2-8) to extend its conference winning streak to 24 games. Jordyn Jenkins scored 20 points for the Trojans, who lost there sixth in a row.

Louisville 100, Syracuse 64: Liz Dixon scored a seasonhigh 18 points and Kianna Smith had 16, helping No. 4 Louisville (21-2, 111 ACC) beat host Syracuse (9-12, 2-9) for its sixth win in a row. Naje Murray led the Orange with 16 points.

Indiana 64, Purdue 57: Nicole Cardano-Hillary scored 19 points and Grace Berger had 17, leading No. 5 Indiana (16-3, 8-1 Big Ten) over visiting Purdue (13-10, 4-8). Jeanae Terry led Purdue with 14 points.

Michigan 98, Iowa 90: Naz Hillmon scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds, and No. 6 Michigan (20-3, 11-1 Big Ten) beat No. 21

Iowa (15-6, 9-3) in Ann Arbor, Mich., despite the Hawkeyes getting 46 points from Caitlin Clark.

Arizona 73, Oregon State 61: Cate Reese had 19 points and Koi Love came off the bench to score a seasonhigh 16, helping No. 8 Arizona (17-3, 7-3 Pac-12) beat Oregon State (11-7, 4-4) for its 15th consecutiv­e home win. Talia Van Oelhoffen led Oregon State with 17 points.

Baylor 75, Texas 63: NaLyssa Smith scored 28 points and No. 9 Baylor (175, 7-3 Big 12) continued its dominant run against No. 13 Texas (15-6, 5-5) in Austin, Texas. It was the Bears’

second victory over the Longhorns in three days.

Florida 54, Georgia 51: Zipporah Broughton scored the final four points and Florida (17-6, 7-3 SEC) scored the final eight to knock off No. 14 Georgia (17-5, 6-4) in Athens, Ga. Malury Bates scored on a hook shot in the lane to give Georgia a 51-46 lead with 4:30 remaining, but that these the last basket the Bulldogs managed.

Maryland 80, Nebraska 65: Chloe Bibby scored 21 points to lead six players in double figures and No. 17 Maryland (17-6, 9-3 Big Ten) defeated host Nebraska (175, 6-5) for the Terrapins’

fifth consecutiv­e win. Ashley Scoggin led Nebraska (17-5, 6-5) with 20 points.

Arizona State 55, Oregon 49: Jade Loville scored six of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, Ayzhiana Basallo scored 10 points with six assists off the bench and host Arizona State (11-8, 3-3 Pac12) beat No. 19 Oregon (147, 7- 3). Endyia Rogers scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting for Oregon.

Florida 70, Nore Dame 65: Valencia Myers finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to help host Florida State (11-10, 5-6 ACC) beat No. 20 Notre Dame (18-5, 93) for the first time in

program history. Olivia Miles had 17 points Notre Dame.

North Carolina 85, Miami 38: Deja Kelly scored 18 points, North Carolina built a 26-point lead in the first quarter, and the No. 24 Tar Heels (18-4, 8-4 ACC) walloped visting Miami (12-9, 5-6). Kelsey Marshall led Miami with 15 points.

Northweste­rn 78, Penn State 72: Makenna Marisa had a game-high 25 points for the host Nittany Lions (913, 3-9 Big Ten) but the Wildcats (13-8, 5-5) had a 23point fourth quarter to pull out the win.
