Last call: Deadline nears for nominating companies for Top Workplaces program

- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PG business desk: business@post-gazette.com

Last year, the Pittsburgh Foundation earned a special award in the Post-Gazette’s annual Top Workplaces ranking. The nonprofit’s employees, surveyed anonymously, rated their benefits package as good compared to others in the industry.

And the team at Jim Shorkey Family Auto Group picked up a special award as a place where senior managers understand what is really happening at the company. The actual name of that award: “Clued-in senior management.”

Feedback from the whole staff is one of the reasons your organization should consider being part of the Post-Gazette’s 2022 Top Workplaces program, but there’s not a lot of time left to submit a nomination.

The nomination deadline is Friday, March 25.

Here, as a reminder, are the basics:

— The program is open to any organization with 50 or more employees in the Pittsburgh region — nonprofits and government entities as well as public and private companies.

— Once an organization is nominated and signs off on participating, the system involves allowing the Post-Gazette’s research partner, Energage, to give employees a short poll asking about topics such as benefits, company direction and management.

— Anyone can nominate an organization, either by calling 412-428-8020 or going to www.post-gazette.com/ nominate.

— Participation is free and all participants will receive results from the surveys, which will give them tools to improve their operations.

— Those named a Post-Gazette 2022 Top Workplace will be featured in a special section and honored at an event later in the year.

Last year, Energage polled more than 16,000 employees in the region as part of the Post-Gazette’s Top Workplaces program. After the results were tallied, 95 organizations made the final list.

And a few of those also picked up some of the special awards.

Like insurance brokerage firm Henderson Brothers Inc., which picked up the prize for making workers “feel genuinely appreciated.”

That probably convinced a few recruits that this wouldn’t be a bad place to work. Just saying.
