Grand jury won’t indict QB Watson

-

A grand jury on Friday declined to indict Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson after a police investigation sparked by lawsuits filed by 22 women who have accused him of sexual assault and harassment.

The grand jury’s decision came about a year after the women first filed their suits, accusing Watson of exposing himself, touching them with his penis or kissing them against their will during massages. One woman alleged Watson forced her to perform oral sex.

Houston police began investigating Watson in April 2021 after a criminal complaint was filed. The FBI also reviewed the case.

Prosecutors presented evidence and testimony to the grand jury for over six hours related to nine criminal complaints against Watson.

Rusty Hardin, Watson’s lead attorney, said that the NFL star “has not done a

single thing wrong and this is the first step for that.”

Steelers

Free agency doesn’t begin until next week, but the Steelers have begun re-signing their own free agents. Miles Killebrew, a backup safety and special-teams player, agreed to a two-year, $4 million contract. Killebrew signed with the Steelers in March 2021 on a oneyear deal worth a little more than $1 million. Getting Killebrew under contract gives the Steelers insurance if they lose Terrell Edmunds, the starting strong safety who will become an unrestricted free agent next week. The Steelers have 13 other players who are set to become unrestricted free agents next week.

Raiders

Las Vegas signed star defensive end Maxx Crosby to a four-year extension worth about $95 million in the first major personnel move made by the new regime of coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.
