AT THE MOVIES
“Minions: The Rise of Gru”: This sequel to 2015’s “Minions” explores how those silly yellow henchmen became loyal to Gru and his dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. The voice cast includes Steve Carell, Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”: The third installment of the “Harry Potter” prequel franchise following magizoologist Newt Scamander finds him, with the help of Albus Dumbledore, foiling Grindelwald’s attempts to grasp power. Starring Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law, with Mads Mikkelsen replacing Johnny Depp as the villainous dark wizard.
“Firestarter”: This remake of the 1984 film based on Stephen King’s novel stars Zac Efron as a father doing whatever it takes to protect his daughter from a government agency after she suddenly gains the ability to set fires with her mind.
“The Worst Person in the World”: Oscarnominated Norwegian film from director Joachim Trier about a young woman in Oslo struggling to find herself in her various relationships.
“Family Camp”: Two rival families compete for a coveted trophy during a weeklong camping trip in this comedy for all ages.
“Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks & Legend of the Sea Devils”: Jodie Whittaker stars as the Doctor in these two specials from the long-running British sci-fi series, which aired as New Year’s and Easter episodes respectively.

Guided by Voices, “Tremblers And Goggles By Rank”: The iconic Dayton, Ohio, band led by Robert Pollard releases its 36th album and second one of 2022. Titles include “Alex Bell,” “Unproductive Funk,” “Lizard on the Red Brick Wall” and “Roosevelt’s Marching Band.”
Municipal Waste, “Electrified Brain”: Seventh album from Richmond’s “hard-partying, thrash metal maniacs” on Nuclear Blast.

“Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy” (Thursday, Netflix): The title says it all in this new anime series based on a Japanese manga.
“Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Underground Rock Experience” (Thursday, HBO Max): The titular rodent gets gussied up in this animated musical based on the children’s book.
“Me or the Menu” (10 p.m., Thursday, Food Network): Can their relationships survive opening a restaurant together? Find out in this new unscripted series.
“Carl Weber’s The Black Hamptons” (Friday, BET+): It’s old money versus new money in this soapy new drama.
“The Princess” (Friday, Hulu): “The Kissing Booth’s” Joey King goes medieval in this rollicking 2022 action comedy/fairy tale mashup.
“Stranger Things” (Friday, Netflix): Our young heroes try to vanquish the villainous Vecna in the closing episodes of the fantasy drama’s fourth season.
“The Terminal List” (Friday, Prime Video): “Jurassic World’s” Chris Pratt plays a Navy SEAL caught up in a conspiracy in this new action drama. With Constance Wu.
“Jailbreak Lovers” ( Saturday, Lifetime): “The Good Witch’s” Catherine Bell falls for a felon in this new, fact-based TV movie.
“The Contractor” (9 p.m., Saturday, Showtime): Chris Pine plays a former special forces soldier forced to find employment elsewhere in this 2022 action drama.
IndyCar Racing (12:30 p.m., Sunday, WPXI): One of the country’s classic road courses is on display today as Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course plays host to the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.
“We Hunt Together” (7:30 p.m., Sunday, SHO): This new British crime drama returns for Season 2, with odd-couple cops Detective Sgt. Lola Franks and Detective Inspector Jackson Mendy (Eve Myles, Babou Ceesay) determined to bring down Freddy Lane (Hermione Corfield).
“Annie” (8 p.m., Sunday, TCM): Adorable Aileen Quinn stars in director John Huston’s 1982 film adaptation of the Broadway musical, whose hit song “Tomorrow” became the audition ditty of choice for a generation of child-star wannabes.
“Beachside Brawl” (10 p.m., Sunday, FOOD): Host Antonia Lofaso challenges the chefs to create delicious summer eats for Independence Day in the new episode “4th of July Party.” As the competition heats up, chef mentors Tiffani Faison and Brooke Williamson lead their teams to create the ultimate burger.
“Independence Day” (7 p.m., Monday, TNT): Will Smith heads an all-star cast in this edge-of-your-seat 1996 sci-fi thriller about an alien armada on a mission to invade Earth.
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular (8 p.m., Monday, WPXI): The Young People’s Chorus of New York City is among the entertainers scheduled to perform during this jubilant two-hour special.
A Capitol Fourth 2022 (8 p.m., Monday, WQED): This rousing 42-year-old summer tradition returns to put PBS viewers front and center for America’s biggest birthday party, as what is arguably the most dazzling fireworks display in the country illuminates the iconic skyline of Washington, D.C.
“Jailhouse Rock” (8 p.m., Monday, TCM): MGM scrapped Elvis’ nice guy image and debuted a rebel persona who gets sent to jail and transcends the ills of incarceration by becoming a singing hit behind bars. This classic features “Jailhouse Rock,” a production number he choreographed himself.
CMT Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th (10 p.m., Monday, CMT): Originating live from downtown Nashville, this festive Independence Day event opens with a concert from Old Dominion, followed by one of the largest fireworks displays in the U.S.
