Boyd leads McKeesport past Penn-Trafford

Bobbie Boyd rushed for 152 yards, scored three touchdowns, and intercepte­d three passes to lead McKeesport to a 19-7 road victory over top-ranked Penn-Trafford in a battle of ranked teams.

McKeesport, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A, improved its record to 2-0 with the non-conference victory. The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Boyd opened the scoring with a 3yard run with 8:14 left in the first quarter. The touchdown capped a 5play, 11-yard drive which was set up when Penn-Trafford punter Tommy Kalkstein’s knee hit the turf while trying to field a low punt snap.

Penn-Trafford evened the score at 7-7 with a 24-yard run by Tasso Whipple. The 37-yard drive was set up by Jacob Otto’s intercepti­on and return that gave the Warriors the ball on the Tigers 37.

Penn-Trafford drove deep into McKeesport territory late in the second quarter, but Boyd ended the threat with an intercepti­on at the Tigers 3.

Boyd’s second intercepti­on came late in the third quarter. Seven plays later, he scored on a 4-yard run.

Boyd’s third touchdown, a 39-yard run with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter, iced the victory. He added a third intercepti­on with 19 seconds left to end the Warriors final threat. More games Thomas Jefferson 35, Baldwin

19: Elias Lippincott rushed for 128 yards on 28 carries and scored on runs of 1, 4, and 8, as the Jaguars (1-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, posted their first victory. Brody Evans completed 18 of 33 passes for 189 yards and connected with Sean Sullivan on a 9-yard scoring pass for the Jaguars. John Kozar threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Fighting Highlander­s (1-1).

Highlands 23, Blackhawk 0: The Golden Rams improved to 2-0 with the shutout of the visiting Cougars (0-2). Luke Bombalski opened the scoring with a 12-yard run in the second quarter. The Golden Rams added two more touchdowns in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Chandler Thimons to Samaj Miller and a 4-yard intercepti­on return by Daniel Long. North Catholic 21, Shady Side Academy 10: Gavin Kamody recovered a blocked punt in the end zone in the second quarter to lead the

Trojans to a victory over the visiting Bulldogs. North Catholic also scored on a 17-yard run Samir Ware and a 45-yard run by Jack Fennell. Shady Side scored on a 19-yard run by Omar Parker and a 17-yard pass from Max Wickland to Deacon Durham. West Allegheny 40, South Fayette 7: Nodin Tracy scored on runs of 6, 15, and 22 yards as the Indians (2-0) dominated the visiting Lions (1-1). Tracy rushed for 82 yards on 20 carries. South Fayette opened the scoring on a 4-yard run by Nate Deans early in the first quarter, but failed to score again. West Allegheny has scored 81 points in two weeks and allowed only 7. Brayden Lambert kicked a pair of field goals for the Indians.

Mars 51, New Castle 7: Evan Wright rushed for 211 yards and scored on runs of 50, 3, and 45 yards to lead the Planets (2-0) in its domination of the visiting Hurricanes (1-1). Garrett Heathering­ton added a pair of touchdowns for the Planets on runs of 17 and 3 yards, while Eric Kasperowic­z connected with Adam Rohrbaugh on a 15-yard scoring pass.

Trinity 34, Chartiers Valley 13: Joey Hello rushed for 178 yards on 14 carries and scored one touchdown to lead the Hillers (1-1) to a convincing win over the visiting Colts ( 0- 2). Andrew Durig added 94 yards on 16 carries and scored twice. Trinity coach Dan Knause is making his debut with the Hillers after five years as the Colts coach.

Montour 14, Moon 2: The Tigers, last year’s WPIAL Class 5A runner-up, falls to 0-2 after a loss to the host Spartans (1-1). Montour scored its points in the first half on a 1-yard run by James Hazard and a 55-yard pass from Kaleb Platz to Daniel Batch. Brock Janeda rushed for 120 yards on 21 carries for the Spartans. Moon has been outscored, 55-2, in two games.

Ambridge 16, Freedom 14: Deaven Ivory completed 10 of 15 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown as the Bridgers (1-1) held off a late rally to defeat the visiting Bulldogs (1-1). Ivory connected with Adam Fernandez on a 32-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. The Bridgers also scored on a 30-yard field goal by Zach Miller and a 27yard run by Stacey Jones. Freedom’s Damian Grunnagle led all rushers with 107 yards on 22 carries and scored on a 7-yard run.
