Freeport spoils South Allegheny housewarming

-

Teams from the WPIAL may think twice now before inviting the Freeport Yellow Jackets to a housewarming party.

The South Allegheny Gladiators opened their new stadium Friday night and welcomed the Yellow Jackets for the first game at the venue. But the Gladiators fell short in the stadium’s inaugural game, as the Yellow Jackets dominated on the road, winning, 37-15.

The Yellow Jackets took a quick 10-0 lead, as Isaac Wetzel connected on a 35yard field goal and Gavin Croney rushed for a touchdown.

The Gladiators finally broke through later in the first half as Mike Michalski scored an 84-yard for their first score in their new stadium to cut the deficit to 10-8.

But the Yellow Jackets’ explosive run game allowed them to pull away from the Gladiators quickly in the second half.

Ben Lane scored two rushing touchdowns and Zach

Clark notched one of his own. Freeport built an insurmountable lead early in the third quarter when Colton Otterman intercepted the football and took it all the way to the house for a Yellow Jackets touchdown.
