Florida State game on despite Hurricane Ian

-

Officials remain confident that Florida State’s football game against Wake Forest will kick off at 3: 30 p. m. Saturday without delays in Tallahassee.

The game’s status was in question after Hurricane Ian ravaged Florida Wednesday and Thursday.

The Seminoles (4-0, 2-0 ACC) have opened 4-0 for the first time since 2015 and are ranked for the first time since 2018. No. 22 Wake Forest (3-1, 0-1) is seeking to get back on track following a doubleovertime loss to No. 5 Clemson.

The deadly category 5 storm struck the state’s west coast Wednesday morning, leaving devastation in its wake before moving inland and being downgraded to a tropical storm.

Air Force

The Air Force football program received two years of probation from the NCAA and had its squad size reduced by 10 for four years as part of its sanctions for recruiting violations. The penalties were announced after Air Force officials and four individuals reached an agreement with NCAA enforcement staff about the penalties.

Michigan

Coach Jim Harbaugh knows all too well what it’s like to take a top-five team into Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium. “As they say, [where] top-five teams go to die,” Harbaugh said this week as the No. 4 Wolverines (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) prepared for Saturday’s game against the Hawkeyes. Iowa (3-1, 1-0) has won five of its past six home games against top-five opponents. That includes a 14-13 victory against Harbaugh’s second-ranked Wolverines in 2016.

Thursday’s game

BYU quarterback Jaren Hall went 16 for 25 for 271 yards and three touchdowns to lead the No. 19 Cougars past visiting Utah State, 38-26. Christopher Brooks had 10 carries for 80 yards in the win.
