Duquesne drops to 1-5

Robert Morris suffers shutout loss; Carnegie Mellon remains unbeaten

Duquesne closed to within one score at the end of the third quarter, but the Dukes could not find the equalizer as Merrimack pulled out the victory, 28-21, on homecoming Saturday at Rooney Field.

The Dukes (1-5, 0-2 Northeast Conference) started the season with high hopes, but the Warriors (4-2, 2-0), who only won two conference games last year, prevented them from picking up their first conference win.

Both Joe Mischler and Darrius Perrantes continued to get work at quarterbac­k , but neither has separated from the other. Mischler completed 8 of 15 passes for 98 yards and a score, and Perrantes went 5 of 12 for 105 yards and a score.

Billy Lucas carried the ball 16 times for 34 yards and a score for the Dukes.

Gardner-Webb 48, Robert Morris 0: Bailey Fisher threw three touchdowns, the GardnerWeb­b defense allowed just 19 yards in the second half and the Runnin’ Bulldogs (2-4, 1-0 Big South Conference) rolled past the host Colonials (0-5, 0-1). Robert Morris quarterbac­k Zach Tanner went 0 for 6 with an intercepti­on in the second half. The Colonials had eight yards rushing in the third quarter and 11 yards on the ground in the fourth. For the game, Tanner completed 12 of 26 passes for 101 yards and was intercepte­d twice.

Carnegie Mellon 27, Waynesburg 20: The No. 18 Tartans (6-0, 4-0 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) connected on a touchdown pass from Ben Mills to Dominic Voiland with 1:09 remaining in the game to beat the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 12).

Indiana (Pa.) 22, California (Pa.) 21: The No. 18 Crimson Hawks (5-0, 3-0 Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference) scored with 1:47 left in the game to beat the host Vulcans (3-3, 2-1). Indiana got on the board first with a field goal, but California led 7-3 at the half and extended the lead to 21-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. Isaiah Houser caught a 27-yard touchdown from Mak Sexton to close the gap to 21-16. Dayjur Stewart then carried the ball in from 1 yard out for the winning score.

Clarion 40, Seton Hill 13: The Golden Eagles (2-4, 1-2 PSAC) got rolling early and didn’t look back, routing the host Griffins (0-6, 0-3). Quarterbac­k Zach Benedek, an Elizabeth Forward graduate, did a little bit of everything. He carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards and a score. He completed 8 of 21 passes for 94 yards. And, he caught two passes from Corahn Alleyne, both resulting in touchdowns.

Slippery Rock 31, Mercyhurst 17: The No. 20 Rock (5-1, 2-1 PSAC) rolled to a big home win over the Lakers (2-4, 0-3). Quarterbac­k Noah Grover completed 24 of 30 passes for 203 yards with three touchdowns and one intercepti­on.

Washington & Jefferson 17, Westminste­r 14: The Presidents (5-1, 3-1 PAC) scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Titans (2-3, 2-2).

Case Western 45, Saint Vincent 21: The Spartans (4-2, 3-1 PAC) jumped out to a 21-0 lead en route to a blowout of the Bearcats (1-3, 1-2).

Geneva 35, Allegheny 21: The Golden Tornadoes (1-4, 1-2 PAC) won their first game of the season, beating the Gators (2-4, 1-3). Hilton McClain Jr. caught five passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
