Ligonier Valley pushes for 2A playoffs

Ligionier Valley took a big step toward qualifying for the Class 2A playoffs with a 29-15 win at Burrell on Friday in the Allegheny Conference.

Haden Sierocky led the Rams (5-2, 3-1) with three touchdowns, a pair of 2-point conversion runs, an intercepti­on and a 51-yard kickoff return that set up the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter. Seirocky finished with 178 yards rushing on 21 carries. Sierocky put the game away with a 56-yard touchdown run, three plays into the fourth quarter.

Sierocky also intercepte­d a Burrell pass after the Bucs drove inside the Ligionier Valley 10-yard line while the Rams were nursing a 22-15 lead late in the third quarter.

The back-and-forth game had two ties and two lead changes. The Buccaneers (5-2,2-2) led 1514 at intermissi­on via a 36-yard field goal by Ryan Croushore with 1:05 left in the second quarter. Devin Beattie led Burrell by rushing for 109 yards on 25 carries, putting him at 1,072 yards this season.

More Class 2A

Beaver Falls 54, Mohawk 7: Richard Singleton scored three touchdowns and Jaren Brickner passed for three more in leading the No. 1 Tigers (5-1, 3-0) to an easy win against visiting Mohawk (2-3, 2-2) in the Midwestern Conference.

Brentwood 20, Waynesburg 7: The Spartans (2-5, 1-2) topped the host Raiders (0-4,0-7) in the Century Conference. Anthony Herisko rushed for two Brentwood touchdowns. Cedric Davis scored the S[artans’ other touchdown and passed for 112 yards, completing 8 of 13 pass attempts.

McGuffey 43, Charleroi 7: The Highlander­s (5-2, 3-1) blew out the host Cougars (1-5,0-3) in the Century Conference. Philip McCuen passed for two touchdowns and rushed for one as six McGuffey players scored touchdowns.

Ellwood City 18, New Brighton 13: Elijah Palmer-McCaine scored every Wolverines touchdown as Ellwood City (2-5, 1-3) won at New Brighton (0-7, 0-4) in the Midwestern Conference. Brian Taylor scored a rushing touchdown and threw a scoring pass to Kyler Rombold for the host Lions.

Neshannock 39, Freedom 0: Jonny Huff rushed for 176 yards on 17 carries while scoring three touchdowns to lead the Lancers (61, 3-1) to a shutout of the host Bulldogs (2-5, 1-3) in the Midwestern Conference. One of Huff’s scoring runs covered 80 yards.

Class 1A

Leechburg 58, Jeannette 21: The Blue Devils (5-2, 3-1) exploded for 27 points in the fourth quarter to break open the contest at Jeannette (2-5, 2-1) in the Eastern Conference. Braylan Lovelace led Leechburg with 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Logan Kline caught three touchdown passes from Jayden Floyd for Leechburg.

Chartiers-Houston 39, Carlynton 0: The Buccaneers (4-3, 1-3) claimed their first win in the Black Hills Conference at the expense of host Carlynton (0-7,0-4). Terry Fetsko threw two TDs to Jake Mele. Jessie Orbin scored two rushing touchdowns for Chartiers-Houston.

South Side 15, Shenango 13: Parker Statler rushed for 89 yards to lead the host Golden Rams (7-0, 3-0) to a narrow victory against the upset-minded Wildcats (1-6, 1-3) in the Big 7 Conference. The winning points came via a safety in the second quarter that boosted the South Side lead to 15-7 at halftime.

California 41, West Greene 14: Jake Layhue passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Trojans (5-2, 2-2) at West Greene (1-6, 1-3) in the Tri-County South Conference. Layhue also rushed for 140 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Riverview 40, Summit Academy 14: The Raiders (3-4) routed host Summit Academy (1-6) in a non-conference contest. Landon Johnson and Carlo Buzzatto each scored three touchdowns for Riverview. Johnson finished with 209 yards rushing and Buzzatto added 154 on the ground.
