Meet the candidates for Pa. House District 27 Edward Brosky vs. Dan Deasy

-

The Post-Gazette submitted a series of three questions to candidates running for state office in Western Pennsylvania.

1. Q: Who are you and why are you qualified to run for state House?

Brosky: I am a lifelong resident of Scott Township and a legal citizen of the United States, and that qualifies me to run forthe state house and any other political office I choose.

Deasy: I am state Rep. Dan Deasy. I have been the elected representative for the 27th state House district for the last 14 years. I currently serve as the Democratic chairman of the House Liquor Control Committee. Prior to becoming a memberof the House of Representatives, I served for four years on Pittsburgh City Council after having worked for the City’s Public Works department for 20 years. I am a lifelong resident of House District 27 and I am proud that my wife and I chose to raise our family in this community. I am keenly aware of the issues facing the residents of this district and I have a vested professional and personal interest in the success of this community and region.

2. Q: Why are you running for state House? Brosky: Family is the most important thing period! The best part about running for a district seat is that it is local, and it keeps me close to the issues that matter to you — in your home, at your family table, in your children’s school. My platform is simple. Faith, family, freedom and liberty. My goal is to promote and support the issues and policies that strengthen your ability to take care of your family — PERIOD!

Deasy: I am running for re-election because I want to continue to serve the residents of Pennsylvania. I am proud of the work that my office has done over the years to help people have greater access to their state government. While in Harrisburg, I always take my time in considering the positions of my constituents before casting votes and I work hard to fight for their best interest. Locally, my district office has helped thousands upon thousands of residents with issues related to unemployment, professional licensing, PennDOT issues and much more. While we cannot always get folks the resolution for which they are hoping, we will always be honest and do our very best to assist. My staff and I are always available. Even during the height of COVID, my office remained open, fielding countless calls for help. I believe we have made a difference for many, and I would be honored for the opportunity to continue to serve the residents of this great district.

3. Q: Why should voters pay attention to this race?

Brosky: The voters are already paying attention to this race. I have been walking the neighborhoods of Crafton, Ingram, Sheraden, Scott, Green Tree, Heidelberg, Banksville, Thornburg, Roslyn Farms and the West End since March. Knocking on the doors of Republicans, Democrats and independent voters. Their concerns include but are not limited to, inflation, crime and education. They also realize that their representative for the last 13 years has never had to run against anyone, so therefore has never been held accountable for his voting record. They also know that he votes straight Democratic party platform. Believe me, the voters are and have been paying attention.

Deasy: Voters should pay attention not only to this race in the 27th state House district but all races in every election. We are blessed to live in a democracy and in recent years, there have been threats to our democracy. The attack on our nation’s Capitol was a direct assault on democracy. I believe we are at the proverbial tipping point in our Commonwealth and country, and elections on all levels matter and our ability to vote and elect our leadership is our duty and right as Americans.
