Knee injury sidelines Astros’ Gurriel

-

In the hours before Game 6 Saturday night in Houston, the Astros ruled first baseman Yuli Gurriel not only out for the game but out for Gamer 7 if it goes that far.

Houston replaced him on its active roster Saturday with rookie catcher Korey Lee.

Gurriel collided with Philadelphia first baseman RhysHoskins in a rundown between third base and home plate Thursday night, injuring his right knee. He also took a knee to the head in the collision.

Gurriel, 38, was hitting .347 with two homers and four RBIs in the postseason, .316 in the World Series.

Trey Mancini started at first base and hit seventh in Game 6 Saturday night. Mancini was 0 for 16 in the postseason and 0 for 6 in the World Series.

Baseball 1, NFL 0

On a rare Thursday night when a World Series game and an NFL game went head-to-head, not only nationally but in Philadelphia and Houston, it was baseball that drew more viewers.

The Astros’ 3-2 victory in Game 5, which gave Houston a 3-2 series lead, averaged 12,768,000 viewers on Fox. The Philadelphia Eagles’ 29-17 win against the Houston Texans averaged 7,860,000 on Amazon Prime Video. Both figures were compiled by Nielsen.

Enjoy the moment

When the World Series is over, so is the contract of Astros manager Dusty Baker, 73. He insists that he hasn’t spent any time worrying about his future.

“I’ve just learned over a period of time that, hey, you just live your life, try to do the right things, seize the moment, and enjoy as much as you can,” he said. “Enjoy this ride . I always thought, hey, when I’m supposed to win, I’m going to win. And when I’m supposed to sign a contract, I’ll sign a contract. But in the meantime, I’m just going to go out there and enjoy what I have been doing for a long time.”
