Penn State stays at No. 11 in AP top 25 poll

-

Penn State’s latest blowout victory has the Nittany Lions still slotted just outside the top 10 of the AP college football poll.

The Nittany Lions (9-2) won by at least 30 points for the third week in a row, throttling Rutgers on the road in a 55-10 win. Penn State, which was previously ranked No. 11 for Week 12 of the AP poll, will stay in the same spot for week 13.

Meanwhile, Ohio State and Michigan each had to claw for victories to remain among the nation’s few undefeated teams. The Buckeyes absorbed a late run by Maryland for a 43-30 road victory against the Terrapins. The Wolverines, however, needed a late 35-yard field goal by kicker Jake Moody to hang on for a 19-17 win at home versus Illinois. No other Big Ten teams besides Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan cracked this week’s top 25. The Buckeyes and Wolverines hung tight at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

TCU kept its perfect season intact and remained at No. 4 with a 29-28 win at Baylor that necessitated a game-winning field goal as time expired. Tennessee took a sizable fall in this week’s rankings to No. 9 after being upset 63-38 by South Carolina. The Volunteers were previously ranked No. 5.

Tennessee

Tennessee ifth-year senior transfer quarterback Hendon Hooker will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in the fourth quarter of the ninthranked Volunteers loss to South Carolina. Tennessee announced that Hooker had a torn ACL .

Kentucky

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has signed an amended contract extension through June 2031 that in February will boost his base annual salary to $8.6 million plus incentives.

The 10th-year coach, who is earning $6.35 million this season, signed the new deal on Nov. 11, a day before the Wildcats fell 24-21 to Vanderbilt. It replaces the previous extension signed last December that ran through June 2028 and deletes the clause that automatically extended his contract by one year if Kentucky won seven games and by two years for 10 wins.

The deal increases Stoops’ buyout from $1.75 million to $4.5 million if he leaves the program before June 30.
