Cancer Bridges Gala

Cancer Bridges held its sold-out benefit at Sheraton Station Square on the South Side, Friday night.

“We are at capacity with 315 guests,” said Meg Dluhos, director of developmen­t.

The event brought in $175,000. “This is my first time as a co -chair for the Cancer Bridges Gala and I am so happy to be a part of it,” said Josette Gephart, with her husband, Brent, and their two sons, Beckett and Graeme.

Gephart, who has been on the

board for nearly 25 years, was thrilled to take on a different role and work with cochair Denise Rost (with Bill).

“I wanted to try to help make some money for Cancer Bridges, which offers so many free services to those dealing with a cancer diagnosis,” Gephart explained.

Four individual­s were honored as luminaries — people who have advanced the cause of Cancer Bridges. Roy Dorrance received the Light Up Cancer Bridges Award but was unable to attend. Nicole Courson was presented with the Light Up Hope Award, Janette Poppenberg received the Light Up Pittsburgh Award and Steel City Fins was presented with the Light Up Community Award.

Dr. Steven Evans spoke about the importance of Cancer Bridges’ community outreach.

DJ Tooth kept the dance floor full after the program.

Party people included executive director Stephanie Ciranni (with Preston), coboard chairs Mike Fitzgerald ( with Kristene) and Jack Morrow (with Cheryl Mantzourid­is), Johni Lech with her parents, Jody and Steve, Lynn Pickford, Scott and Susan Long, associate director Rebecca Whitlinger, Judy and Marty Smith, Amy and Geoff Fleming, Judy Sapos, Mary Ann Miller Mohr ( with Terry), Patti and Art McAuley and Cheri Gmiter.
