Michigan State players charged in scuffle

Seven Michigan State football players were charged in the postgame melee in Michigan Stadium’s tunnel last month, according to a statement Wednesday from the Washtenaw County (Mich.) Prosecutor’s Office.

The most serious charge is against cornerback Khary Crump, who faces a felony count of felonious assault. The charges against the six others are misdemeano­rs. Linebacker Itayvion “Tank” Brown, safety Angelo Grose, cornerback Justin White, defensive end Brandon Wright and defensive end Zion Young are each charged with one count of aggravated assault, and linebacker Jacoby Windmon faces one count of assault and battery.

Scuffles broke out in the Michigan Stadium tunnel on Oct. 29 after the Wolverines beat the Spartans, 29-7. Social media posts showed Michigan State players pushing, punching and kicking Michigan’s Ja’Den McBurrows in and near a hallway that doesn’t lead to either locker room. Brown, Grose and Young are seen on video getting physical with McBurrows.

Robert Morris defensive back Sydney Audiger and linebacker Joe Casale were named All-Big South second team. Auduger finished third for the Colonials in tackles with 61 and had two intercepti­ons. Casale had 70 tackles, including a team -high 11 for losses.

Marin Cilic rallied to defeat Pablo Carreno Busta in a three-hour match and send Croatia into the Davis Cup semifinals in Malaga, Spain. Cilic trailed 4-1 in the decisive tiebreaker before coming back to clinch a 5-7, 6-3, 76 (5) victory after 3 hours, 13 minutes and secure a 2-0 win against Spain.

Baseball

A full postseason share for the World Series champion Houston Astros totaled a record $516,347 from a player pool of $107.5 million, also a record in the first season the playoffs were expanded to 12 teams. The Astros split $38.7 million into 59 full shares, 14.14 partial shares and $940,000 in cash awards. The mount of the winner’s share topped the previous mark of $438,902 for Houston in 2017.

• The Texas Rangers hired

Mike Maddux as their new pitching coach. Maddux spent the past five seasons as pitching coach in St. Louis.

• Hoy Park, designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday, was traded to the Boston Red Sox for 18-year-old lefthander Inmer Lobo.
