Pittsburgh Public Media will acquire WAMO’s AM station
WAMO Pittsburgh (660 AM), the Pittsburgh station that dates back almost 75 years, is changing hands.
Martz Communications is donating the urban contemporary station, with its playlist of Drake, Lil Nas X, Kanye West and Big Sean, among others, to Pittsburgh Public Media, which operates The Pittsburgh Jazz Channel on WZUM-AM/ FM (1550/88.1).
Martz will receive a tax credit to be determined by an end- of- the- year appraisal.
Since March, WAMO has been under the control of Audacy, which entered into a limited marketing agreement to acquire the intellectual rights of the station along with WAMO-FM at 107.3.
The format will now originate from Audacy’s WDSYHD2.
WAMO was founded in 1948 as WHOD, the station that served as the home base for legendary DJ Porky Chedwick.
