Bills’ Miller injures knee in win

Washington quarterback has bought new Air Jordans after each victory

-

Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller injured his right knee in the second quarter and didn’t return against the Detroit Lions.

Coach Sean McDermott said he didn’t have any injury updates after the Bills beat the Lions on Thursday.

Miller had his right leg stepped on inadvertently by Detroit center Frank Ragnow while he was blocking another player.

He was evaluated on the sideline and was taken on a cart from the sideline to the locker room. Miller had one tackle and was credited with hurrying quarterback Jared Goff before leaving the game.

The 33-year-old Miller entered the game tied for 10th in the NFL with eight sacks.

Commanders

Taylor Heinicke is 4-1 since taking over for Carson Wentz as the Washington Commanders’ starting quarterback.

He has four new pairs of sneakers to show for it.

In a tradition he began last year, Heinicke gets himself a pair of Air Jordans in the colors of every team he and the Commanders beat. Their success and Heinicke’s popularity among players and fans has made the “Js” a viral sensation well beyond the locker room.

“I never really meant it to get this big, but I am enjoying it now,” Heinicke said Wednesday. “It’s a cool deal, and I think the coolest part about it is it doesn’t take away from football. It’s very football-related and it’s kind of just a little present for us winning.”

Heinicke has taken to getting shoes for teammates to thank them for their contributions — and hopes that incentive perhaps “gets those guys going a little bit more.”

The starting offensive line was first. Tight ends are next.

Raiders

A civil jury has found a woman liable for malicious prosecution in a rape allegation she made against a former Ohio State football standout more than five years ago, Cleveland.com reported.

The accusation against Gareon Conley came shortly before the 2017 NFL draft, in which he had been projected to be a high firstround pick. The 23-year-old woman alleged that he had sexually assaulted her in a Cleveland hotel room.

Conley’s attorney said the sex was consensual.

A grand jury in Cleveland declined to indict Conley on any of the possible charges according to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office, and he signed a four-year contract with the Oakland Raiders, who made him the 24th overall pick.

The woman filed a lawsuit a year later, accusing him of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Conley sued her in a counterclaim, accusing her of malicious prosecution.

Cleveland.com reports that jurors sided with Conley after a 10-day trial in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, finding that the woman had failed to show that he had assaulted her.

Jurors ordered her to pay him $300, including $100 in punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees.

A message seeking comment was sent to her attorney.
