I f last year proved anything, it was that anything can happen in WPIAL girls basketball. Only three of the six No. 1 seeds won WPIAL titles last winter, and there was even a changing of the guard or two. What will the 2022-23 season bring? No one knows. That’s what makes the preseason so enticing as the answers await beginning Friday when a new high school basketball season begins around Western Pennsylvan­ia. In that vein, here is an in-depth look at the top-ranked teams in the preseason along with the players to watch in each classifica­tion of the WPIAL and City League.
