City Controller Lamb to run for county executive
Pittsburgh City Controller Michael Lamb announced Monday he will run next year for Allegheny County executive.
Mr. Lamb said on Twitter, “We need new partnerships with our numerous municipalities to ensure critical services are delivered effectively and we must ensure a fair property tax system that protects homeowners.”
Mr. Lamb announced over the summer that he would not run for re-election to his current job, and when asked about a possible run for county executive said he would make an announcement about his plans after the November election.
Incumbent county Executive Rich Fitzgerald is termlimited and cannot run again.
“As county executive, we will have a county government that is transparent and accessible,” Mr. Lamb said. “County leadership that is committed to making Allegheny County work better for the people it serves.”
He has been city controller since 2008 and said in his announcement that he has led efforts to increase transparency in government. He has also joined in efforts to make large nonprofits pay more toward city services.
Mr. Lamb also previously ran unsuccessfully for mayor.
Erin McClelland, who lost a race for Congress in 2016, has also announced her candidacy for executive.
She and Mr. Lamb are both Democrats.
