Police: Woman left on exit ramp after husband shot her

- By Megan Guza

A North Side man allegedly shot his wife Monday as she drove along Crosstown Boulevard, ordered her to keep driving and then took off when she refused, leaving her wounded and bleeding on an exit ramp, according to charges filed against him.

The woman said she and her husband, 37-year-old Kevin Crew, were arguing as she drove from their Northview Heights home after he accused her of lying to him, according to the criminal complaint.

As they argued, she told police, Crew pulled out a gun and shot her in the thigh. Trauma surgeons at the hospital later told police the bullet went into her right thigh and out her calf, leaving her in critical condition.

She was later upgraded to serious but stable condition, police said.

After he shot her, Crew asked her to keep driving, according to the complaint. She refused, then parked the car in the middle of the Interstate 579 off-ramp and got out. Crew moved to the driver’s seat and took off, leaving her there.

The woman said Crew had a history of domestic disputes, and she’d had a protection from abuse order from him at one point that had since expired, police wrote.

She said her husband got a gun shortly after he was released from prison late last year. Court records show he was granted parole Dec. 9 after serving approximately 13 months of an 18-month sentence for fraud.

Crew is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and firearms violations. He was not in custody.
