Colonials end trip with a victory

The Robert Morris men’s team wrapped up a sevengame road trip Wednesday, ending the swing on a high note with a 71-66 nonconfere­nce victory against Central Michigan (4-5) in Mount Pleasant, Mich., at McGuirk Arena. Josh Corbin led the Colonials ( 4- 6) in scoring with 20 points while also notching four rebounds, an assist, steal and block.

Other district men’s games

West Virginia 85, Navy 64: Tre Mitchell scored 19 points to lead host West Virginia (72) to a nonconfere­nce win against Navy (5-4). Freshman Austin Benigni scored 20 points for Navy.

Michigan State 67, Penn State 58: The Spartans (6-4, 1-1) pulled away late against the host Nittany Lions (6-3, 0-1). A.J. Hoggard paced the Spartans with 23 points. Jalen Pickett finished with 13 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists for the Nittany

Lions, who were outscored, 9-4 in the final three minutes.

District women

Pitt 78, Loyola (Md.) 42: The Panthers (6-3) snapped their 3-game losing streak with a nonconfere­nce win at the Petersen Events Center against the Greyhounds (4-6). Pitt held Loyola to 14 points in the first half. The Panthers were led by Avery Strickland with 17 points.

Duquesne 73, Kent State 67: Sophomore guard Tess Myers and junior guard Amaya Hamilton led host Duquesne (7-2) to a nonconfere­nce win against Kent State (5-3) as each of them set career highs with 23 and 22 points, respective­ly. The win also marked the 176th victory of head coach Dan Burt’s tenure, which ties the all- time wins record at Duquesne.

Top 25 men

Purdue 85, Hofstra 66: Zach Edey had a double-double in the first half and finished with 23 points and 18 rebounds to help host No. 4 Purdue (9-0) rout Hofstra (64).

Tennessee 84, Eastern Kentucky 49: Tyreke Key led host No. 7 Tennessee (8-1) with 17 points as the Volunteers won ia nonconfere­nce game against Eastern Kentucky (4-5).

Top 25 women

Virginia Tech 73, Boston College 58: Reigning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year Elizabeth Kitley had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 7 Virginia Tech (90, 1- 0 ACC) to a victory against host Boston College (7-4. 0-1). North Carolina 64, UNCWilming­ton 42: Alyssa Ustby scored 16 points and host No. 8 North Carolina (7-1) rebounded from its only loss of the season and beat UNC Wilmington (2-6).

Iowa 70, Iowa State 57: Caitlin Clark scored 19 points after a slow start as host No. 16 Iowa (7-3) defeated No. 10 Iowa State (6-2).
