“A Man Called Otto”: Tom Hanks enters his grumpy old man era in this dark but hopeful comedy from director Marc Forster about a curmudgeon finding community.

“Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”: This film entry in the popular Japanese anime franchise revolves around heroes and villains who are all navigating the legacies and ambitions of their fathers and grandfathe­rs.

“The Whale”: A transforme­d Brendan Fraser plays a morbidly obese man who reaches out to his estranged daughter as he reflects on his life amid faltering health.

“Alice, Darling”: Anna Kendrick stars as young woman who reckons with an emotionall­y abusive relationsh­ip while on vacation with her best friends.

“Glorious”: A man finds himself at a rest stop with a mysterious voice emanating from the neighborin­g stall in this horror thriller featuring Ryan Kwanten and J.K. Simmons.

“Puppet Master: Doktor Death”: The latest entry in the horror franchise concerns an unhinged doll-sized surgeon wreaking havoc in a nursing home.

“The Apology”: In this psychologi­cal thriller starring Anna Gunn, a haunted mother whose child disappeare­d 20 years earlier has her estranged ex-brother-in-law show up unannounce­d at Christmas, ready to spill some family secrets.

“The Locksmith”: Ryan Phillippe stars as an ex-thief determined to put his skills to legitimate use after getting released from prison, until unexpected events intervene. Also starring Kate Bosworth and Ving Rhames.

AT THE MOVIES

“Shazam! Fury Of The Gods”: Asher Angel returns as Billy Batson, who when he says the word “shazam” is struck by lightning and transforms from a kid to an adult superhero (played by Zachary Levi). Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu star as furious goddesses Hespera and Kalypso, who are none too pleased that Billy and his sibling superheroe­s have access to the power of the gods.

“Inside”: Willem Dafoe, Gene Bervoets, and Eliza Stuyck star in this psychologi­cal thriller about a high-end art thief trapped in a New York penthouse after his heist doesn’t go as planned.

“65”: Adam Driver stars in this sci-fi thriller about a spaceman who crashes on an unknown planet and discovers he is stranded on Earth 65 million years ago, with the dinosaurs.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

U2, “Songs Of Surrender”: Curated and produced by guitarist The Edge, this is a collection of 40 seminal U2 songs reimagined for 2023 in sessions spanning the last two years. He said of the project, “Music allows you to time travel, and we became curious to find out what it would be like to bring our early songs back with us to the present day and give them the benefit, or otherwise, of a 21st century reimaginin­g.”

The Black Crowes, “Shake Your Money Maker Live”: Live album, capturing the band on the 2021-22 reunion tour, features each track from the debut, more hits and covers of The Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It)” and The Velvet Undergroun­d’s “Rock & Roll.”

T-Pain, “On Top Of The Covers”: The Grammy winner applies his non-autotuned vocals to songs by Sam Cooke, Journey, Dr. Hook, Sam Smith, Chris Stapleton, Frank Sinatra and Black Sabbath.

WHAT’S ON TV

“Queens Court” (Thursday, Peacock): Tamar Braxton, Evelyn Lozada and R&B singer Nivea are single and looking to mingle in this new dating competitio­n.

“Shadow and Bone” (Thursday, Netflix): This dark YA fantasy drama about an orphan (Jessie Mei Li) with magical powers is back for Season 2.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (Thursday, CBS, TBS, TNT and TruTV; various times.): March Madness gets underway in earnest with a weekend’s worth of matchups.

“Butchers of the Bayou” (A&E, 9 and 10 p.m. Thursday; also Friday): This new four-part series recalls a sinister rivalry between two serial killers in 1990s Baton Rouge, La.

“Grown & Gospel” (WE tv, 9 p.m. Thursday): Five friends try to make their names in the gospel music game in this new reality series.

“Good Trouble” (Freeform, 10 p.m. Thursday): This spinoff of “The Fosters” returns for a fifth season. With Cierra Ramirez and Maia Mitchell.

“Agent Elvis” (Friday, Netflix): Thankyouve­rymuch! The King of Rock ’n’ Roll (voice of Matthew McConaughe­y) moonlights as a super spy in this new adult animated comedy.

“Beach Cottage Chronicles” (Friday, HBO Max, Discovery+): The easy, breezy architectu­re and design series is back with new episodes.

“Bono & the Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman” (Friday, Disney+): Did the U2 bandmates ever find what they were looking for? Find out in this new special.

“Boston Strangler” (Friday, Hulu): Keira Knightley portrays a journalist on the trail of the notorious 1960s-era serial killer in this 2023 docudrama.

“Dance 100” (Friday, Netflix): Watch your step! Up-and-coming choreograp­hers are put through their paces in this new competitio­n.

“Extrapolat­ions” (Friday, Apple TV+): In the not-too-distant future, climate change pushes humanity to the brink in this new star-studded drama. With Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, et al.

“Leave” (Friday, Shudder): A young woman abandoned as a baby tries to unlock the secrets of her parentage in this 2022 terror tale. With Alicia von Rittberg.

“The Magician’s Elephant” (Friday, Netflix): A young boy has his eyes on the prize — a pachyderm — in this animated 2023 fantasy.

“Servant” (Friday, Apple TV+): This twisted domestic thriller from M. Night Shyamalan ends its run after four seasons. Lauren Ambrose stars.

“Swarm” (Friday, Prime Video): A young woman’s fandom for a Beyoncé-like superstar takes her to some very dark places in this new drama. Dominique Fishback stars.

“Put a Ring On It” (OWN, 9 p.m. Friday): More couples get that push to jump the proverbial broom as the unscripted series returns.

“Power Book II: Ghost” (Starz, 9 p.m. Friday): The spinoff of the 2014-20 crime drama conjures up a third season. Michael Rainey Jr. stars.

“Great Performanc­es at the Met” (PBS, 9 p.m. Friday): Soprano Renée Fleming whiles away “The Hours” in this 2022 opera based on Michael’s Cunningham’s 1998 bestseller inspired by Virginia Woolf’s 1925 novel “Mrs. Dalloway.”

“A Winning Team” (Hallmark, 8 p.m. Saturday): A women’s soccer star kicks it with a small-town coach in this new TV movie. With Nadia Hatta.

“The Hillsdale Adoption Scam” (Lifetime, 8 p.m. Saturday): A couple’s desperatio­n to have another child takes a dark turn in this new thriller. With Keshia Knight Pulliam.
