AT THE MOVIES

“The Exorcist: Believer”: A young girl is possessed by a demon in this direct sequel to 1973’s “The Exorcist” featuring the return of Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil. Directed by David Gordon Green and also starring Leslie Odom Jr., Jennifer Nettles and Ann Dowd.

“Strange Way of Life”: This 31-minute short film was directed by Pedro Almodóvar and stars Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke as two gunslinger­s reuniting after 25 years apart.

“Dumb Money”: Director Craig Gillespie’s dramedy is based on the 2021 book “The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees.” Its cast includes Paul Dano, Shailene Woodley, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Ramos, Nick Offerman, Seth Rogen, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dane DeHaan and Pete Davidson.

“Talk to Me”: The directoria­l debut of twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou (who go by RackaRacka on YouTube) concerns a group of teens who become obsessed with connecting to spirits via a plaster hand, with things eventually going too far.

“Animal Crackers”: Animated film in which a family uses their box of magical crackers to thwart their evil uncle’s attempt to take over a dilapidate­d circus.

“Mob Land”: After their attempt to rob a drug dealer does not go smoothly, a man and his brother-in-law draw the attention of both the sheriff and a mob boss. Starring Shiloh Fernandez, John Travolta, Kevin Dillon and Stephen Dorff.

“NCIS: Hawai’i: Season Two”: The tropical-set spinoff of the CBS drama series returns for a second season that features crossover events with both “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

“Prey”: Set in 1719 on the Great Plains, a Comanche warrior (Amber Midthunder) has a close encounter of the worst kind in this entry in the “Predator” franchise that premiered on Hulu in 2022.

Disney 100: The animated classics “The Little Mermaid,” “The Lion King,” “Moana” and “Aladdin” get SteelBook releases as part of Walt Disney’s ongoing centennial celebratio­n.

“R BnB”: An anniversar­y at a secluded rental property takes a turn for a New York couple when they discover they are being recorded for some unknown reason.

“After Everything”: The fifth and final installmen­t of the “After” romance franchise.

Darius Rucker, “Carolyn’s Boy”: First solo project in six years from the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman is named for his late mother, he says, as an “homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.”

Drake, “For All the Dogs”: Eighth album from the R&B/hip-hop star was scheduled for Sept. 22 but postponed until this week.

Old Dominion, “Memory Lane”: Eighteentr­ack album, expanded from the eight-song EP, features collaborat­ions with Blake Shelton and Megan Moroney.

Roger Waters, “The Dark Side of the Moon Redux”: The Pink Floyd founder said of the reimagined version of the classic album, “The new recording is more reflective I think, and it’s more indicative of what the concept of the record was.”

“The Challenge: USA”: Fan favorites from reality TV shows compete in grueling mental and physical competitio­ns, as this game show pits reality superstars from the CBS-verse against each other in games, challenges and missions, as they aim to win prizes and advantages. (10 p.m., Thursday, ABC)

“Everything Now”: Premiere of a series about a 16-year-old girl who returns home after a lengthy recovery from an eating disorder and is thrust back into the chaotic world of teen life. (Thursday, Netflix)

“Loki”: Long-delayed season 2 premiere of the Marvel series finds Tom Hiddleston back in the role of the God of Mischief. (Friday, Disney+)

“Desperatel­y Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe”: Docuseries unveils the dark truth behind the Twin Flames Universe, an alleged online love cult. (Friday, Amazon)

“American Masters”: A new episode airs from season 37 of this series, profiling some of the greatest figures in American arts and culture. This installmen­t focuses on bebop pioneer and composer Max Roach, whose ambitions were inspired and challenged by societal inequities. (9 p.m., Friday, PBS):

“Final Destinatio­n”: Think you have what it takes to make it out alive? Five movies from this franchise air back-to-back, also including “Final Destinatio­n 2,” “Final Destinatio­n 3,” “The Final Destinatio­n” and “Final Destinatio­n 5.” This first film stars Devon Sawa. (7 p.m., Saturday, AMC)

“Austin City Limits”: In this season premiere the ACL stage welcomes Grammy-winning guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela in a one-ofa-kind performanc­e featuring the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Rodrigo y Gabriela are touring in support of their most recent release. (11 p.m., Saturday, PBS)

“The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial”: Movie premiere follows a skeptical lawyer reluctantl­y who defends the navy officer who took control of the Caine from its captain, Lt. Philip Francis Queeg (Kiefer Sutherland), while caught in a violent sea storm. (9 p.m., Sunday, Showtime)
