Highlights from major construction projects around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas this week
1. Clairton and Miller roads and Route 51/Jefferson Hills: Lane restrictions throughout the area for work related to the ongoing construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway. Some work will continue into 2026. Also, Coal Valley Road is closed until April, necessitating a four- mile detour using Routes 885 and 837 through Jefferson Hills and Clairton.
2. North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road/Pittsburgh: Closed for replacement.
3. Gill Hall Road/Jefferson Hills: Lane restrictions between Bedell Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission driveway, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through late February for sewer installation.
4. Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge/Pittsburgh: Bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over a ravine in Oakland closed as a result of problems found during an inspection.
5. Millers Run Road/ South Fayette: Temporary, one-lane bridge open at intersection with Battle Ridge. Detour remains in place for trucks and buses. Also, Mohawk Road is fully closed at Millers Run Road.
6. Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street) Bridge/Pittsburgh: Closed until December for rehabilitation.
7. Smithfield Street Bridge/Pittsburgh: Next phase of preservation project begins Monday night, when a full closure of the bridge will occur between 8 p.m. At 6 a.m. Tuesday, a new bi-directional traffic configuration will be in place and the bridge will reopen.
8. Armstrong Tunnel/ Pittsburgh: Closed inbound for rehabilitation. Additionally, the right lane for inbound traffic on Second Avenue closed at the intersection with the tunnel. Inbound tunnel expected to reopen during winter 2024, when the outbound tunnel and adjacent sidewalk will be closed.
9. Route 28/Pittsburgh, Aspinwall, Sharpsburg and north: The ramp from southbound Route 28 to Fox Chapel Road (Exit 8) closed to traffic from Monday morning through 5 p.m. Friday. Additionally, traffic will be shifted onto the shoulder on the on-ramp from Fox Chapel Road to southbound Route 28 from 8 a.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Friday. The restrictions are for concrete reconstruction work. Watch for lane restrictions in both directions in O’Hara, Harmar, Springdale, Frazer and East Deer through November.
10.Highland Park Bridge/ Pittsburgh: Project to add separate exit lanes to the bridge to create a continuous flow of two lanes of traffic in each direction should finish by the end of the year.
11. Baileys Run Road/ Frazer, East Deer and West Deer: Restrictions between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. until November for paving.
12. Wildwood Road/ Hampton: Traffic detoured through early November for work on bridge over Willow Run and the Allegheny Valley Railroad.
13. Wallace Road/South Park, Jefferson Hills: Closed between Cochran Mill Road and the National Energy Technology Laboratory for replacement of Lick Run Bridge No. 2 Work continues into December.
14. Frankstown Road/ Penn Hills: Traffic restrictions for reconstruction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 7 p.m. Fridays to 7 p.m. Saturdays through late October in these locations: Saltsburg Road between Frankstown Road and Leechburg Road; Frankstown Road between Verona Road and Saltsburg Road.
15. Route 910/Richland, Marshall, Pine: Single-lane alternating traffic between Hardt Road and Mingo Road through late 2023 for reconstruction; daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
16. Crawford Run Road/ East Deer: Closed near
Meadow Avenue for repairs to Clarks Run Bridge No. 1. Work expected to end in November.
17. Route 50/Collier: Singlerestriction westbound between Vanadium Road and Landgraf Avenue through Oct. 31 for retaining wall construction.
18. Route 50/Carnegie: Single-lane alternating traffic between Boden Avenue and East Main Street for miscellaneous construction activities through late October.
19.ChestnutStreet/Pittsburgh: Reconstruction between Spring Garden Avenue and Phineas Street expected to end Jan. 12. Second phase then will concentrate on Tripoli/Zona Street to Phineas Street.
20. Greentree Road, Cochran Road/Scott, Mt. Lebanon: Lane restrictions for paving: Cochran Road between Beverly Road and Greentree Road weeknights from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. through late 2023; Greentree Road between Cochran Road and Washington Pike weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through late 2023.
21. Logan Road/Bethel Park: Single-lane alternating traffic between Clark Avenue and Oneill Drive, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through late October for waterline installation.
22. Thompson Road/ Fawn: Closed between Hemphill Road and Sun Mine Road for replacement of Bull Creek Bridge No. 7. Work to end in December.
23. McIntyre Road/Ross: Closed between Byron Road and Thompson Run Road for replacement of the Pine Creek South Branch Bridge No. 10. Work will continue into December. 24. Dorseyville Road/Indiana Township: Single-lane closures until November between Fox Chapel Road and Saxonburg Boulevard for paving. Also, Dorseyville Road between Rawlins Run Road and Fox Chapel Road is closed until November for replacement of Little Pine Creek Bridge No. 15.
25. Wilkins Avenue/Braddock Hills: Closed between Cross Street and Garfield Avenue for construction of roadway support structure. Work to end in November.
26.Weyman Road/Whitehall: Bridge that carries Weyman over Saw Mill Run in Whitehall closed through late November. Work includes replacing the existing structure with a box culvert, approach roadway reconstruction and waterline replacement.
27. Lincoln Road/Penn Hills: Closed between Oakwood Road/Vine Street and Verona Road for rehabilitation of Sandy Creek Bridge No. 7. Closure will last until sometime in November.
28. William Penn Highway/ 22/Wilkins, Monroeville: Lane restrictions in both directions on the Hall Station Bridge, which carries William Penn Highway over Thompson Run Road. Restrictions will remain in place through mid-November for structure improvement work.
29. Duncan Avenue/ Hampton: Closed at Stillhouse Run Bridge No. 1, near Bryant Road, for roadway reconstruction. Work will last until sometime in November. 30. Braddock Road, Wilkins Avenue/Forest Hills, Braddock Hills: Periodic single-closures on Braddock Road between Ardmore Boulevard and Brinton Road in Forest Hills and on Wilkins
Avenue between Brinton Road and Woodstock Avenue/Hawkins Avenue in Braddock Hills for milling and paving. Work to conclude in November.
31. Glass Run and Mifflin roads/Pittsburgh: Closure of the ramp that carries traffic from northbound Route 837 to southbound Route 885 will remain in place through mid-September 2024. A single lane of traffic will be maintained on the ramp as crews continue to build a pedestrian walkway and ramp. Baldwin Road remains narrowed between Glass Run Road and Mifflin Road.
32. Baptist Road/Whitehall: Single-lane alternating traffic between Hamilton Road and Weyman Road, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through late December, for waterline work.
33. Washington Boulevard/ Street/Port Vue, McKeesport: Traffic restrictions between Lysle Boulevard and Bellaire Drive, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through late December, for pipeline work.
34. Butler Street/Pittsburgh: Lane restrictions between 34th Street and 39th Street, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through February for gas pipeline work.
35. Parkway East (I-376) Pittsburgh: Ramp that carries traffic from eastbound Parkway East to Oakland/ Forbes Avenue (Exit 72A) closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through late December for milling and deck overlay work. Detour posted.
36. Boulevard of the Allies/ Single-lane restrictions and ramp narrowing as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Nov. 3 in the following locations: Westbound Boulevard of the Allies under the Birmingham Bridge ramps to Forbes Avenue and westbound I376 (Parkway East); eastbound Boulevard of the Allies under the Birmingham Bridge ramps to Forbes Avenue and eastbound Parkway East; eastbound Parkway East off-ramp under the Birmingham Bridge to Forbes Avenue.
37. Wood Street transit station/Pittsburgh: Light rail trains will skip the station through Oct. 23 while Pittsburgh Regional Transit replaces escalators.
38. Elizabeth Bridge/Elizabeth and West Elizabeth: Lane restrictions weekdays through late October for cleaning.
39. Liberty Way/Lincoln: Single-lane alternating traffic between Calhoun Road and Finney Road and between Bellbridge Road and Washington Boulevard, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 27 for pavement repair.
40. Interstate 79/various locations: Overnight lane restrictions in Glenfield, Sewickley Hills, Franklin Park, Aleppo and Ohio Township, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights through Nov. 3 for guide rail installation. Also, inspection work on the Neville Island Bridge will occur Monday through Friday, meaning single lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. according to the following schedule: Monday and Tuesday, Northbound I-79; Wednesday, Southbound I-79; Thursday and Friday, Route 65 beneath the bridge. 41. Grant Street/Pittsburgh: Ramp to westbound Parkway East closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Friday for repairs as part of the Smithfield Street Bridge project.
