Columbus scores 9 on Sabres

Marchenko posts a natural hat trick

Kirill Marchenko scored three consecutiv­e goals, including a nifty shot through his legs, for a natural hat trick, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the spiraling host Buffalo Sabres, 9- 4, Tuesday night.

Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and two assists, and Sean Kuraly, Adam Fantilli, Cole Sillinger and Kent Johnson had a goal and assist apiece. Erik Gudbranson also scored in an outing the Blue Jackets broke open by scoring seven consecutiv­e times during a 21:52 stretch spanning the first and second periods.

Columbus scored three times on consecutiv­e shots over a 75-second span in building a 6-1 lead before the game was half over.

Other games Rangers 5, Maple Leafs 2:

Mika Zibanejad scored twice and Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves as visiting New York defeated Toronto.

Flyers 3, Devils 2: Owen Tippett stole the puck in the Devils zone and scored with 1:35 left in overtime and visiting Philadelph­ia extended its point streak to nine games with a win against New Jersey. Ryan Poehling had both regulation goals for the Flyers.

Hurricanes 6, Golden Knights 3: Michael Bunting had a goal and two assists, Brady Skjei added a goal and an assist, and host Carolina matched its highest-scoring game of the season with a win against Vegas. Vegas center Jack Eichel’s franchise-record points streak reached 11 games.

Lightning 6, Blues 1: NHL points leader Nikita Kucherov had two goals as host Tampa Bay beat St. Louis.

Islanders 3, Oilers 1: Anders Lee and Bo Horvat scored power-play goals and host New York beat Edmonton. Edmonton captain Connor McDavid was held off the scoresheet, ending a 12-game point streak.

Wild 4, Bruins 3: Kirill Kaprizov scored his second goal of the game with 2:06 left to play in overtime, lifting visiting Minnesota to a win against Boston.

Boston captain Brad Marchand had scored with 66 seconds left in regulation, sending the Bruins to their fourth consecutiv­e overtime game. But Kaprizov finished off a 3-on-1 break for the winner. Marc-Andre Fleury made 40 saves for the Wild.

Notes

Kevin Korchinski rejoined the Chicago Blackhawks following the death of his father, Larry.

The 19-year-old Korchinski was on the ice for Chicago’s morning skate ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. Coach Luke Richardson said the rookie defenseman is going to need some time before he is ready for games again.

Korchinski has two goals and five assists in 25 games in his first NHL season.
