Watt injured on collision with Adams

Star linebacker never returned after being hurt in third

- By Brian Batko

BALTIMORE –The Steelers lost T.J. Watt to a knee injury late in the third quarter when he collided with teammate Montravius Adams.

After being checked out on the sideline, he left the field with Dr. Jim Bradley and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Watt had been a force early in the second half. He picked up his 18th and 19th sacks of the season in the third quarter. He has a chance to lead the NFL in sacks for the second time in three seasons. He leads the league entering Sunday’s games.

Watt is the second player since 1982 to record 19 or more sacks in two of his first seven seasons in the NFL. His brother J.J. did it in 2012 and 2014.

Watt made it 10 consecutive games against the Ravens with at least a halfsack. He’s had multiple sacks in four of his past seven games against the Ravens.

The only team Watt has as many sacks against is Cleveland (17). The Bengals are third (12), and the first nondivisional opponent on the list is Indianapolis (5.5).

Heads up play

Kickoff returner Godwin Igwebuike made a smart play late in the second quarter. When Justin Tucker’s kickoff died at the 7-yard line near the sidelines, Igwebuike stepped out of bounds and then lay on top of the ball.

Instead of starting the drive on their 7, the Steelers were awarded possession at the 40 because the ball was fielded out of bounds.

TheSteelers could not take advantage, however — their final drive of the first half ended when Mason Rudolph was sacked and fumbled in Baltimore territory.

Versatile Warren

With his fourth catch of the game in the final minute of the first half, Steelers running back Jaylen Warren became just the third player in franchise history with 750 rushing yards and 60 receptions in the same season.

Warren joined Le’Veon Bell (2014, 2016, 2017) and Najee Harris (2021) on that list. As a rookie last season, Warren ran for just 379 yards and caught 28 passes.

2024 home schedule

The Steelers know 15 of their 17 opponents for next season, with the final two to be determined on Sunday.

The Steelers will play eight home games against the Ravens, Browns, Bengals, Chiefs, Chargers, Cowboys, Giants and Jets.

The Steelers will play nine road games against the Ravens, Browns, Bengals, Broncos, Raiders, Eagles and Commanders, plus the third-place team from the AFC South (either the Jaguars, Colts or Texans) and the third-place team from the NFC South (either the Buccaneers, Saints or Falcons).
