Clutch FTs lift Dukes to 14th win

Duquesne lets 17-point lead dwindle late

-

The Duquesne men’s team let most of a 17-point, second-half lead vanish Saturday but held on for a 75-69 win against St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. It was the Dukes’ fifth win in their past six games.

After Mike Adams-Woods made a 3-pointer to cut the lead to six points with 1:18 to play, the Dukes squelched the comeback by going 10 or 10 from the free-throw line in the final 1:15, six by Dae Dae Grant, plus a clinching dunk by David Dixon with 45 seconds left to give Duquesne a sweep of the season series against the Bonnies (14-9, 5-6 Atlantic 10).

“It was a good win for us,” said Dukes coach Keith Dambrot. “This league is wacky. Everybody’s pretty much the same in a lot of regards, and how you match up is pivotal as to whether you can win or not.”

Duquesne took a 13point lead at the half and increased it to 17 points on Tre Williams’ layup 1:52 into the second half.

“We got off to a good start, and that was key.”

Fousseyi Drame finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds off the bench to lead Duquesne (14-9, 4-6 Atlantic 10). Grant finished with 12 points for the Dukes, who led by 13 at the half and increased the lead to 40-23 on Tre Williams’ layup with 18:04 left.
