Mavericks ride season-high quarter to big win

The Dallas Mavericks scored 47 points in the first quarter— the highest-scoring quarter in the NBA this season— and rolled to a 146111rout of Oklahoma City in Dallas.

Luka Doncic scored 32 points and Kyrie Irving added25 to help the Mavericks win their fourth in a row.

Irving also recorded the 4,000th assist of his career. He isthe 127th player in the history of the NBA to reach the milestone.

Ina weather-plagued Phoenix Open, Nick Taylor hada one-shot lead at 13 under with 12 holes left in his thirdround when play was suspended because of darkness. Sahith The egala had the lead when the second roundended earlier in the day, but bogeyed the first two holes of his third round. He is ashot back with much of his thirdround yet to play.

•The Phoenix Open is knownas the no-holds barred party stop on the PGA Tour, but even it has its limits.The tournament at TPC Scottsdale stopped allowing fans on to the premises at mid-afternoon. It also briefly stopped alcohol sales at sever allocation­s around the course, hoping to slow the party.

Winter sports

Swissskier Lara Gut-Behrami came from a long way behind to win a women’s WorldCup giant slalom in Soldeu, Andorra, by one-hundredth of a second. In the process, she overtook Mikaela Shiffrin on top of the overall WorldCup standings. Shiffrin, still recovering from a knee injury, did not ski Saturday. American AJ Hurt finished finished third.

•Swiss star Marco Odermatt dominated a men’s

WorldCup giant slalom in Bansko, Bulgaria, to win his ninth consecutiv­e race in the discipline.

Michigan co-defensive coordinato­r/defensive coach Steve Clinkscale is following

Jim Harbaugh to Los Angeles and will join the staff of the Chargers. The news of Clinkscale’s departure comes a day after reports the Don “Wink” Martindale is expected to be hired as Michigan’s defensive coordinato­r.
