- By Abby Kirkland Abby Kirkland (abbykirkland77@gmail.com) is a freelancer and animal lover who lives in Mt. Lebanon.

Shelter Soulmates is a bi-weekly column spotlighting adoptable animals from local animal shelters.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we have three bonded pairs this week. These animals must be adopted together.

Frappe and Macchiato

Frappe, a 1-year-old female rabbit, and Macchiato, a 2-year-old male rabbit, were brought to Animal Friends by a good Samaritan who found them abandoned on her property.

Frappe is a fun and playful girl, while Macchiato is an independent guy who enjoys a play session every now and then.

These bunny buddies can be shy at first, but your patience will pay off — these bunnies are lovely company. They are looking for a home where they will receive all the love they deserve.

Additionally, Frappe and Macchiato are Animal Friend’s VIPs. The VIP Adoption Special was recently created to spotlight animals who spend longer than average time in the shelter due to their unique needs. The aim of the program is to communicate about and provide both the education and resources necessary for adoption. For these animals, the adoption donationhas been fully underwritten.

Freeport and Quibbler

These two kitties have found their love match at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, even though they came in separately.

Freeport, a 1½-year-old male, came to HARP’s East Side shelter as a stray and has taken some time to warm up and show his soft side. As you can imagine, the streets can be a scary place!

Now that he knows he’s loved, Freeport loves to sit on laps and headbutts for affection!

Quibbler is a petite 2½-year-old female with beautiful copper eyes. She came from a home with too many animals and takes a while to warm up to new people. Freeport helps her feel confident and shows her how to socialize.

The way to Quibbler’s heart is play. She absolutely loves wand toys! She is very cautious with touch and will need a patient and understanding adopter who will let her open up at her own pace.

Freeport provides the cuddles and Quibbler provides the fun. From long naps in the sun to chasing toy mice, the pair have earned the best forever home they can find.

If you’re looking for a young pair of kitties, you must meet these two! Learn more at www.humaneanimalrescue.org.

Elwood and Jake

Blues Brothers Elwood and Jake are two bonded male Lionhead rabbits found by a good Samaritan in Wexford.

After caring for them for a few days, she took the 1-year-old brothers to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh’s shelter in Homewood to find them a forever home.

While the boys are a little shy at first, they love each other and they love to eat. When they hear the bag of treats, they come running.

If you have room in your home for these bonded boys, you can be their Valentine.
