Affirm Inc., a San Franciscobased financial technology company, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the state Department of Labor and Industry to notify the layoffs of 60 remote employees.

“We consolidated several operations teams,” said an Affirm spokesperson, in an email to the Post Gazette. “Unfortunately, these changes resulted in us parting ways with Affirmers in this group. We are working individually with impacted Affirmers to assist them with their transition.”

The remote-first company does not have a single site of employment in Pennsylvania, wrote Barb Cadigan, chief people officer for Affirm, in the WARN notice filed Tuesday, but has a physical office located at 30 Isabella St. on the North Shore, which will remain open.

“The reduction-in-force will commence on February 15, 2024, though employees are being notified February 13, 2024,” Ms. Cadigan wrote in the notice filed Tuesday. “The separation date for most affected employees will be February 15, 2024. A small portion of the affected employees will have a separation date on or before April 30, 2024. The layoffs are considered permanent.”

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act seeks to ensure that employees receive advance notice of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs. The WARN Act requires employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of such closures or layoffs.

Ms. Cadigan wrote that impacted employees do not have “bumping rights” as part of a seniority system, and that the employees are not represented by a union.
