Warriors pull out win versus Lions

Penn-Trafford had four different players score goals in the quarters

Penn-Trafford (8-9-4) had four different players score goals and freshman goaltender Tyler Funk made it stand up with 31 saves as the Warriors pulled out a 4-3 victory against defending Penguins Cup champion South Fayette (17-2-2) in the PIHL Class 2A playoffs quarterfin­al.

Gavin Paterson scored on a power play with 44.3 seconds remaining in the second period and Robert Thatcher put it away with an empty-netter with 46.2 seconds left in regulation to give Penn-Trafford a 4-2 lead.

Other Class 2A

Franklin Regional 4, Latrobe 3: The sixth-seeded Panthers (11-7-3) lost both regular season games to the No. 3 Wildcats (13-8-0) but got their revenge in the opening round. Shawn Sinclair scored his second goal of the game unassisted at 8:52 of the third period to break a 3-3 tie.

Thomas Jeerson 5, Hempeld 3: The Jaguars (19-2-0) never trailed as the two teams alternated goals throughout. Andrew Oliver broke a 3-3 tie when Scott Allan set him up for the goal at 3:52 of the third period and Allan gave the No. 2 Jaguars some much-needed insurance at 11:34. Nino DiPietro had a goal and an assist in the loss for the No. 7 Spartans (9-111).

Norwin 5, Fox Chapel 2: The Knights (12-7-2) came back with three goals in 2:42 late in regulation to take the win in the 4-5 game against the Foxes (11-9-1).

Class 3A

Seneca Valley 4, Mt. Lebanon 0: The No. 3 seeded Raiders (16-5-0) ousted the sixth-seeded Vikings (12-8-1).

Vinci Villella scored what turned out to be the gamewinnin­g goal at 14:55 of the first period, and Cenzo DiTullio faced just 16 shots in recording the shutout.

Pine- Richland 3, Bethel Park 1: Logan Kozak, A.J. Verszyla and Aiden Tarasovich each scored first-period goals and the Rams (16-4-1) limited the No. 8 Black Hawks (9-111) to nine shots as No. 1 Pine-Richland moved on.

North Allegheny 3, Central Catholic 1: Ryan Jackman and Marc Joyson scored goals 12 seconds apart midway through the second period and Camden Junker stopped 27 of the 28 Vikings (10-10-1) shots he faced to help the No. 2 Tigers (15-4-2) back into the semis.

Class 1A

Greensburg Salem 2, Quaker Valley 0: Greensburg Salem (15-5-2) made a firstperio­d goal from Luke Dieter stand up as Tristan Gonzales stopped all 27 shots he faced to post the shutout.

Chartiers Valley 4, Moon 0: Noah Callender scored a pair of second period goals 23 seconds apart and Chris DeAngelis had a goal and two assists to help the Colts (210-0) remain undefeated and more into the semifinals. Matthew Colberg stopped 20 Tigers (12-10-0) shots for the shutout.

Shaler 6, Avonworth 2: The Titans’ Matthew Stelitano scored four goals in the final two periods to help Shaler (17-3-2) move on into the semifinals.
