Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh is offering children ages 4-16 the opportunity to read to animals at HARP’s east side shelter. The program not only helps to socialize the animals and prepare them for adoption, it also strengthens children’s literary skills and builds confidence. One-hour reading sessions run from February to May. First-time participants attend an orientation to learn about the shelter, the animals in its care and the keys to observing animal behavior. After completing the orientation, the children can sign up to read to the animals. They may bring their own books or choose from HARP’s collection. Orientation: $10 one-time fee/child; each reading session: $7/child. Go to humaneanimalrescue.org/animaltales24/. to register and learn dates and times of sessions.
