Rockets hold off Spurs

Houston chasing last playoff spot

Fred VanVleet scored 21 points and the Houston Rockets held off the host San Antonio Spurs, 103-101, on Tuesday night.

Houston won its fourth straight on the road and is five games behind Golden State for 10th in the Western Conference.

Tre Jones had 22 points and Jeremy Sochan added 21 as San Antonio lost for the fourth time in five games. Victor Wembanyama finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists after a sluggish start.

The Spurs cut the deficit to 99-98 with 19 seconds remaining on Sochan’s threepoint play off a missed 3pointer by Wembanyama. But the Rockets were able to stay ahead from the foul line.

Knicks 106, 76ers 79: Josh Hart had 20 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists in his fourth triple-double of the season, OG Anunoby scored 14 points in his return from an 18-game absence and host New York beat Philadelph­ia. Jalen Brunson added 20 points and nine assists for the Knicks. Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 points for Philadelph­ia.

Pacers 121, Thunder 111:

Myles Tuner scored 24 points to help visiting Indiana defeat Oklahoma City. Chartiers Valley grad T.J. McConnell added nine points and four assists for the Pacers. Shai Gilgeous Alexander had 30 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder, who fell into a tie with the Denver Nuggets at the top of the Western Conference standings.

Grizzlies 109, Wizards 97:

Trey Jemison scored a careerhigh 24 points, and host Memphis used a late rally to hold on for a win against Washington. Kyle Kuzma had 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Wizards.

Celtics 123, Jazz 107:

Jayson Tatum scored 38 points and Derrick White added 24 to lead visiting Boston to a win against struggling Utah. The Celtics were missing rotation players Jaylen Brown ( back), Kristaps Porzingis (hamstring) and Al Horford (toe). The Jazz played without leading scorer Lauri Markkanen (thigh) and Taylor Hendricks (toe).
