AT THE MOVIES

“Arthur the King”: A dog joins an adventure racing team on a grueling journey through the Dominican Republic in director Simon Cellan Jones’ adaptation of Mikael Lindnord’s 2016 novel, “Arthur — The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home.” It stars Mark Wahlberg, Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel and Juliet Rylance.

NEW ON DVD

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”: Jason Momoa returns as the titular protector of Atlantis, called into action once more in this DC sequel. Also back are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Mantis, Patrick Wilson and Amber Heard, as Orm Marius and Mera, respective­ly, and director James Wan.

“Poor Things”: This adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel from director Yorgos Lanthimos, is a sci-fi fantasy riff on “Frankenste­in,” for which Emma Stone won the Oscar for best actress. The film also received Oscar nomination­s for best picture and director, as well as best supporting actor (Mark Ruffalo).

“Anyone But You”: R-rated rom-com starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as a couple faking togetherne­ss after an actual hookup.

“Wish”: A young girl in a bucolic city realizes that things are not as happy as they seem when everyone’s wishes are hoarded and kept secret by their king, a powerful wizard, in Disney’s animated feature marking the studio’s 100th anniversar­y.

“The Color Purple”: This adaptation of the stage musical of the beloved book and movie follows the story of Celie, a Georgia woman separated from her sister in the early 20th century.

“Ferrari”: Filmmaker Michael Mann’s latest feature follows a couple of dramatic months in the life of the Italian automotive magnate Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) in 1957.

“I.S.S.”: Sci-fi thriller that finds a Russian and American crew having to navigate their shared space and relationsh­ips aboard the Internatio­nal Space Station after war breaks out on Earth.

“Freelance”: A private security contractor (John Cena) and journalist (Alison Brie) get mixed up in a South American military coup in this action comedy.

“Immediate Family”: Documentar­y film about four L.A. session musicians who played a major part in the music of the last five decades, with stars such as James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards, Linda Ronstadt and Phil Collins testifying to their greatness.

“Day By Day: The Rise + The Dynasty”: This sports documentar­y examines the highly successful Nebraska Cornhusker­s football program under Tom Osbourne in the 1970s-90s.

“Rick and Morty: The Complete Seventh Season”: The Adult Swim animated comedy returns for its first season without voices by Justin Roiland, who was dismissed from the franchise in early 2023.

“Monster”: After a mother discovers a teacher’s bullying is behind her young son’s sudden strange behavior, she demands an explanatio­n in this Japanese drama.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

Kacey Musgraves, “Deeper Well”: The Grammy-winning alt-country star co-produced and co-wrote her sixth album, recorded at the Electric Lady Studios in New York City, with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk.

Justin Timberlake, “Everything I Thought It Was”: The sixth solo album from the former NSYNC star follows 2018’s “Man of the Woods” and includes the single “Selfish.”

The Black Crowes, “Happiness Bastards”: Frontman Chris Robinson calls the reunited band’s first album in 15 years “our love letter to rock ’n’ roll.” It features 10 new originals, including one with Lainey Wilson.

Lenny Kravitz, “Blue Electric Light”: The vibrant rocker who came along in 1989 with “Let Love Rule” played most of the instrument­s himself on his 12th album, his first in six years.

Scott Stapp, “Higher Power”: The fourth solo album from the Creed frontman will precede the band’s first tour in 10 years. It features three songs with Greek fusion guitarist Yiannis Papadopoul­os.

WHAT’S ON TV

“Sharks vs. Penguins” (ESPN+, 7 p.m. Thursday): The San Jose Sharks travel to the Steel City to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins on their home ice.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (NBC, 9 p.m. Thursday): Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her co-workers, Sgt. Odafin Tutuola (Ice T), ADA Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and the rest of the NYPD squad show special care and attention to the victims involved in their cases, always fighting for justice.

“Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC, 9 p.m. Thursday): She’s back! Even though she departed as a series regular last season, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) must have left something in her desk because she returns in this season 20 premiere. Drs. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Marsh (Scott Speedman) return.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” (Friday, Disney+): The pop idol’s massively successful tour hits streaming.

“Irish Wish” (Friday, Netflix): Lindsay Lohan stars in this comedy-fantasy as a woman who has to put her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at the wedding of her best friend and the love of her life.

“Manhunt” (Friday, Apple TV+): Limited series follows Edwin Stanton’s search for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassinat­ion.

“BMF” (Starz, 8 p.m. Friday): With a quickly expanding business and family matters to attend to, Detroit-based brothers Meech (Demetrius Flenory Jr.) and Terry (Da’Vinchi) find themselves instrument­al in a multi-state drug and money-laundering scheme. How will they balance it all?

“Fire Country” (CBS, 9 p.m. Friday): For Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), a convict looking to redeem himself for throwing his allAmerica­n life away, when there’s smoke, there’s fire. As part of the prison release firefighti­ng program in Northern California, Bode tries to make a new start.

“Rangers vs. Penguins” (ABC, 3 p.m. Saturday): The New York Rangers play the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena.

“College Basketball” (Fox, 6:30 p.m. Saturday): The conference that once struck fear into the hearts of other programs and caused more than a few bruises in-conference is back as the top teams battle it out in the men’s basketball Big East Tournament Championsh­ip, live from Madison Square Garden.

“In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon” (Sunday, MGM+): Documentar­y looks back at his career and the making of new album “Seven Psalms.”
