Ohtani helps Dodgers win season opener in Seoul

-

The Los Angeles Dodgers started their Shohei Ohtani era with a memorable win on a day of firsts in Seoul, South Korea, as the 2024 MLB season began.

Ohtani’s RBI single capped a four-run eighth-inning for the Dodgers en route to a 5-2 win against the San Diego Padres in front of 15,952 at the Gocheok Sky Dome. Ohtani went 2 for 5 in his first game with the Dodgers since signing a record $700 million, 10year contract.

Not only was Ohtani’s debut significant, but so was the Dodgers’ lineup as a whole. Mookie Betts, Ohtani and Freddie Freeman became the first MVPs to hit 1-2-3 in a batting order since Philadelphia’s Joe Morgan, Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt did so in 10 games in 1983.
