A 69-year-old Sharpsburg man is charged with attempted homicide after he allegedly called 911 on Tuesday and reported he’d stabbed his wife, according to the charges against him.

According to the criminal complaint, Victor Cute called 911 around 2 p.m. and said he’d stabbed his 71-year-old wife and she was bleeding on the floor. The 911 call taker asked if it was accidental.

“No, it wasn’t,” Cute said, according to the complaint, and then: “Oh, dear God.”

Where was she stabbed?

The call taker asked. “All over,” was the reply. Cute said he’d be on the front porch when police arrived. He said he didn’t have the knife on him anymore.

Police took Cute into custody without incident. He said he didn’t want to talk about the stabbing, according to the complaint. Police later learned his wife had been stabbed 17 times in the abdomen.

The Post-Gazette does not identify victims of alleged domestic violence.

Cute and his wife lived on the first floor of a two-floor unit, and investigators said they found blood smears in the common area leading toward the lower apartment. Inside the apartment, they found pools of blood.

Cute is charged with aggravated assault and attempted homicide. At an early morning arraignment Wednesday, District Judge Thomas S. Brletic ordered Cute held without bail, noting in the court record that he “is accused of stabbing his wife 17 times” and is “a danger to his wife and community.”

Court records did not list an attorney as of Wednesday afternoon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27.
