Dodgers, Smith agree to 10-year, $140M contract

Catcher Will Smith and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a $140 million, 10year contract Wednesday, raising the team’s spending to nearly $1.4 billion for five key players since December.

He opened the last week by going 5 for 10 with two RBIs as the Dodgers split a two-game series against San Diego at Seoul, South Korea. Smith, 28, was a firsttime All- Star last year, when he hit .261 with 19 homers and 76 RBIs.

Opening day

Pete Alonso and the New York Mets were scheduled to host the Milw a u k e e Brewers on Thursday afternoon. But with wet weather expected in Queens, the Mets announced Wednesday the game was pushed back to Friday.

Guardians

Center fielder Miles Straw’s elite defense isn’t enough anymore for the Guardians. He was assigned to Triple-A Columbus after being waived last week by Cleveland.
