Reds survive delay, Phillies

Christian Encarnacio­n-Strand and Elly De La Cruz had RBI doubles, Frankie Montas pitched 5 2/3 innings and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelph­ia Phillies, 4-1, on Wednesday night in Philadelph­ia after a long rain delay.

The game was originally scheduled for the afternoon, but the start was pushed back three hours because of heavy rain in the forecast. Then the teams waited out an additional delay of 3 hour, 55-minutes — the secondlong­est stoppage in the 20year history of Citizens Bank Park.

Montas (2-0) allowed one run on five hits. Alexis Diaz pitched a the ninth for his first save.

Twins 7, Brewers 3: Jackson Chourio became the youngest player in six years to hit a home run but it wasn’t enough to prevent Milwaukee’s first loss. Ryan Jeffers hit a tiebreakin­g three-run homer for Minnesota to cap a five-run seventh inning.

Rangers 4, Rays 1: Nathan Eovaldi struck out eight in seven shutout innings and Corey Seager homered for Texas. Eovaldi scattered four hits and walked one.

Red Sox 1, Athletics 0: Enmanuel Valdez’s sacrifice fly in the fourth was all Boston’s Nick Pivetta and four relievers needed in an eight-hit shutout.

Yankees 6, Diamondbac­ks 5: Aaron Judge’s two-run double in the top of the 11th gave New York its sixth win in seventh games.

Guardians 9, Mariners 0: Josh Naylor drove in three runs and starter Logan Allen combined with three Cleveland relievers on a five-hit shutout.

Padres 3, Cardinals 2: Joe Musgrove struck out seven in six innings and Kyle Higashioka homered for San Diego.

Orioles 4, Royals 3: James McCann had a two-out, tworun single in the ninth inning and host Baltimore emerged from a five-hour rain delay to beat Kansas City. Baltimore trailed 3-0 in the eighth before scoring twice against the Kansas City bullpen, which wasted a masterful performanc­e by starter Cole Ragans.

Angels 10, Marlins 2: Taylor Ward homered, Nolan Schanuel extended his career-starting consecutiv­e onbase streak to 35 games and visiting Los Angeles handed winless Miami their seventh consecutiv­e loss. The Marlins had already set the franchise record for its worst start on Tuesday when they lost their sixth in a row.

Astros 8, Blue Jays 0: Yordan Alvarez homered twice and matched his career high with four hits, Cristian Javier and four relievers combined on a one-hitter and host Houston beat Toronto. Javier (1-0) allowed the only hit and pitched five innings.

Cubs 9, Rockies 8: Seiya Suzuki homered in his second straight game and drove in four runs and host Chicago regrouped to beat Colorado after blowing a six-run lead. The Cubs have outscored the Rockies by a combined 17-2 in the first two games of the series.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Trevor Megill was placed on the seven-day concussion list after passing out and hitting his head while recovering from an apparent food poisoning.

• With weather already playing havoc with their starting rotation, the New York Mets agreed to a contract with veteran right- hander Julio Teheran.

• The Cleveland Guardians and Progressiv­e Insurance reached agreement on a 13-year extension to Progressiv­e’s stadium naming rights.
