Lines the focus of latest visitors

14 O- or D-line prospects are among first 25

If the parade of prospects coming through the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex is any indication, the Steelers are intent on beefing up their offensive and defensive lines yet again in this year’s NFL draft.

Two more linemen took pre-draft visits on Thursday — Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton and Northern Iowa defensive tackle Khristian Boyd are visiting with the Steelers on Thursday.

That makes 14 offensive or defensive linemen among the 25 prospects that have visited the Steelers thus far. The pre-draft visits wrap up April 17, eight days before the draft.

Guyton is another firstround offensive tackle prospect the Steelers are scoutinghard this spring. They’ve also had Georgia’s Amarius Mims and Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga in for visits last month.

Guyton ( 6- foot- 8, 322 pounds) played his first two seasons at TCU before finishing up his college career with Oklahoma, where he developed into one of the top offensive linemen in this draft class. He has experience at left and right tackle,

but 14 of his 18 starts with the Sooners came at right tackle.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan said at the NFL combine it is his desire to see Broderick Jones, last year’s first-round pick, at left tackle next season after he made 11 starts at right tackle as a rookie. Guyton or any other rookie the Steelers target in this draft is likely headed to the right side of the line.

Guyton displayed his elite athleticism at the combine where he ran a 5.19 in the 40yard dash and posted a 34½inch vertical leap. His vertical was fifth among all of the offensive linemen who participated in the combine.

Boyd (6-foot-4, 317 pounds) did not become a full-time starter until last season when he earned third-team All-American honors at the FCS level. Likely a Day 3 prospect, Boyd started his college career in 2018 and turned 24 in February.

Boyd had 43 tackles and 3½ sacks last season.
