JACKSONVILLE over Houston by 6

Playbook Football (Midweek Alert) - - 2-minute Handicap -

The Jags have now won 6 of their last seven and no one took much notice when the victories were over Indy (twice), Cleveland, Cincy and the Chargers before they got pretty good. However, Sunday’s win over Seattle opened some eyes and at 9-4, Jax has clinched its first winning season in a decade. Unfortunately, the Jacksonville teams of the past always set up their fans for disappointment, evidenced by stats like an 0-4 ATS mark at home in division games when coming off consecutive home games. Also, check out this sparkling nugget from our NFL Coaches database goldmine: home teams in division games are 15-26-1 SU and 14-27-1 ATS after facing Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks, including 6-12 SU and 3-15 ATS when facing sub .500 foes. The ‘Ville has been known to take a week off following a big win and that could well be the case here. Not to be cruel, but the good news for the Texans is that the concussion to QB Tom Savage likely works in their favor if T.J. Yates gets the call. Yates, 5-0 ATS as a dog in his NFL career. hadn’t seen action in an NFL regular season game for over two years but looked solid in relief of the concussed Savage, going 14 of 26 for 175 yards, including two TD tosses to DeAndre Hopkins. In addition, the Texans are 5-1 ATS the last 6 games as a visitor in this series. Finally, we’re just not sure this Jaguar turnaround is established enough to lay doubles. Play accordingly.
