Uab over Ohio U by 6
In a feel good story that should be airing on the Hallmark Channel rather than ESPN, the Blazers – who’ve been out of uniform the past two years – earned a trip to the alleys by posting their first winning season (and only other bowl appearance) since 2004. Early on it didn’t look like Bill Clark’s crew would dress for success as UAB fell by 20 points at lowly Ball State – the Cardinals’ only win over an FBS program the entire campaign. And while we realize this is a step up the MAC ladder, our sharp database likes the Blazers’ chances as bowl dogs of 7 or more points off a win of 7 or more are 31-17-1 ATS versus foes off a SU loss. In addition, bowl favorites coming off a pair of SU favorite losses are 2-8 ATS, including 0-6 ATS as chalk of 6 or more points. Combine that with Ohio’s 0-3 SUATS mark with rest against CUSA opponents and 2-6 SU record as bowlers under Frank Solich and you see why it’s better in the Bahamas for the boys from Birmingham. Still, we’d be hardpressed not to cap it off with THE CLINCHER: MAC bowlers off a SU loss of 6 or more points are 2-17 SU and 4-15 ATS since 1994, including 0-11 SUATS as either a favorite or a dog of 3 or fewer points.
